Industry and human settlement

A large portion of the Caribbean region’s population lives and works in densely populated coastal areas.  Many industrial activities are located in these zones to take advantage of easy access to transport infrastructure such as ports and airports. In addition, human settlements are concentrated along the coast especially where the sea is a major source of income through fishing, tourism or transport. These areas are the most vulnerable to sea-level rise as a result of global climate change.
