MOVIE-VERSE BUNNIES (1) M1. What happened after Pippin risked his life to light the beacons? Did he feel any physical or emotional shock once he had succeeded and made it back down to the ground? Was the climb down as harrowing as the climb up? Did he feel proud? Frightened? Did Gandalf acknowledge the deed in any way? What was Aragorn's reaction when he learned that the beacon he saw at Edoras had been initiated by... Pippin? M2. What was involved in Sam taking the Ring from Frodo? Did Sam “see” the Eye of Sauron when he touched the Ring? Did he only touch the chain? Why did he put it in his pocket, and not around his neck? How difficult was it for Sam to leave Frodo’s side and hide when the Orcs were coming? Why didn’t he just put on the Ring and fight the Orcs then and there? When Sam returned the Ring to Frodo, Frodo stood up and immediately felt its weight around his neck -- had Sam felt anything when he held the Ring? M3. When Frodo and Sam
escape from the Tower, past so many bodies and going down so many levels, Frodo
realizes the enormity of what Sam has done -- and the courage and love it took
-- in order to rescue him. M4. Witnessing Saruman’s horrific death, and being confronted by the Witch-king again, has a rather hobbity effect on Pippin, who is now overflowing with questions for Gandalf. If even a wizard can be killed, he wonders, what hope is there for the rest of them? Does Pippin ever wonder what became of the palantir? Does he still long to see it? Is Gandalf still a wizard without his staff? Just what is a wizard, anyway? M5. How and by whom was the badly-injured Merry removed from the field of battle? What was everyone’s reaction when Pippin found him? Was Pippin present when Aragorn healed him, as Eomer was present when Aragorn healed Eowyn? Who was there when Merry recovered, and what did he remember? Did Merry feel proud, confused, numb? How did he hear the news about Theoden’s death? M6. Riding back from the Black Gate after their victory, are Aragorn, Pippin, and Merry given news about Frodo and Sam? Do they know that Gandalf and the Eagles have rescued them? Do they ride back in despair, or in hope? What do they talk about during that trip back to Minas Tirith? M7. Merry and Pippin sit by Frodo’s bed, watching him sleep after the Eagle has brought him to the Houses of Healing. They still have the mithril shirt, and wonder how Frodo lost it... and how Sauron had the shirt, but not Frodo. Frodo has lost a finger, and both he and Sam somehow survived the poisonous air of Mordor that Boromir spoke of at the Council. How? They have so many questions... and so few answers. M8. When Sam awakens in Minas Tirith, Gandalf finally has a chance to tell him how proud he is that his request, “Don’t you lose him, Samwise Gamgee” was so taken to heart. How does Sam view what he’s done, and what’s happened? Although Frodo lost consciousness during the rescue, does Sam remember the Eagles? How is he feeling? Does the Fellowship greet him the way they greet Frodo? M9. What happened in Frodo’s ‘sick room’ after the ‘awakening’ scene in the movie? Who stayed? Who left? Did he and Sam talk about what happened? Did Aragorn speak with him? How about Faramir? What did Frodo want to eat first? Could he walk? Did the sunlight hurt his eyes after so much darkness? M10. There are coronation details to be explored. Who escorts the hobbits to the Coronation, and why are they standing where they are? What are Aragorn's thoughts after Gandalf crowns him, and he turns to see the entire city waiting for him to speak? When Aragorn begins singing in Elvish, does Frodo translate the words for the other hobbits? Do they (like Legolas) know that Arwen is present? Eomer doesn’t bow to the king, but simply lowers his head -- is this because he, too, is now king?? What is he thinking about? Where did Eowyn get that beautiful dress? This bunny was adopted and raised by: M11. At the coronation,
Merry sees Eowyn radiantly happy in Faramir’s company.
Does he regret, even for a moment, that he’s “only a hobbit”, and that his
“lady” will never know how he truly felt about her? (Or does she?) Do they share
a glance or a word that speaks volumes? When does Merry meet Faramir, and is
Eowyn present? M12. How did the hobbits receive their Gondorian finery and (we assume) full wardrobes in which to return home? What did each hobbit think? How were the clothes delivered? When? Did the king open the treasury of Minas Tirith and find bolts of silks and velvets? Was Faramir involved? Were the hobbits together, or were they alone? What did they each think when they first looked in a mirror and saw themselves in such finery? M13. Faramir and Eomer fall into conversation, and realize that they have more in common than they imagined. Faramir never dreamed he’d be Steward, but on the death of his brother and father, he was; Eomer never dreamed he’d be King, but on the death of his cousin and uncle, he was. They realize that because Pippin saved Faramir’s life, and Merry saved Eowyn’s, they both owe the hobbits a debt greater than they can ever repay. M14. Eowyn and Eomer finally get a chance to talk. Does Eomer tell his sister about Grima’s death? Does he tell her how he felt when he thought she was dead in his arms? How does he feel about her being so joyously happy for probably the first time in her life? Now that Eomer has his sister back, does he have any misgivings about “losing her” to Gondor? M15. Once Aragorn and Arwen are reunited, Aragorn realizes that he no longer needs to keep her “betrothal” gift (the pendant), and asks her what she thinks about them giving it to Frodo. (I’m sorry, but Frodo just has to end up with that pendant.) Or is it Arwen who brings it up? How do they bestow it upon him, and what do they say about what it is -- and why they wish him to have it? Is Frodo grateful to have something around his neck that isn’t heavy, oppressive, and evil? Does it bring him comfort? |
