WHAT DID THEY EAT?

We can divide the dinosaurs in two different groups: Plant-eaters and Meat-eaters.

1-Plant-eaters:

The long-neck dinosaurs had very long necks. Their necks were so long, that they could eat from the top of a tree by cutting the leaf with their peg-shaped teeth. These dinosaurs didn't chew the food and many times they swallowed stones to help the food go down. They ate up to 1 ton of leaves per day.

Some dinosaurs like the "Barasaurus", which also belonged to the long-neck dinosaurs, needed to eat all the day long in order to feed their giant bodies.

But, not all the dinosaurs had long necks. Many of them were small. It seems to be that according to their different heights, they ate at different levels. For example the small ones ate at ground level.

The kind of plants that the dinosaurs ate were changing with the time. The dinosaurs lived on the Earth for 160 years. During this time the Earth's climate was changing as well as the kind of plants, the kind of dinosaurs and other animals.

2-Meat-eaters

Many times the meat-eaters dinosaurs ate the plant-eating dinosaurs.

A large hunter such as the "Tyrannosaurus" could hunt a prey alone. He had heavy jaws and about 50 sharp teeth, each one as long as a banana. A "good meal" satisfied him for a few days. He had 3 toes on each foot with a big talon on each toe. His feet were 2 feet long. He could run at 24 miles an hour.

The small meat-eating dinosaurs attacked their victims in groups. Many times their victims were larger dinosaurs.
