My current goals for the
future are in part an extension of my previous teaching experiences, and in part due to some of the experiences that I had this year during my studies
and practicum placements.
I have extensive experience teaching ESL, and this year took PED 3115
-ESL Students in Ontario
Classrooms. This summer (2003), I wish to take stage 1 of the English as a
Second Language Additional Qualification course in the hopes of eventually
becoming a specialist in this area
This year, I was introduced to the Backward-Design method of
curriculum design, which heightened my interest in this aspect of teaching.
I will increase my professional design/planning abilities through both
formal and informal study. I also hope to begin creating and submitting
sample units using the Ontario Curriculum Unit Planner CD-ROM software
During my practicum, I was exposed to Second Step - a conflict
resolution program for young children, and became very interested in this
area of classroom life. While I have developed some general classroom
discipline plans, and classroom management techniques, I wish to create a
classroom in which one takes responsibility for their actions. In an effort
to be instrumental in instilling those attitudes and skills in my students,
I will investigate other conflict resolution programs, as well as do more
independent study in this important area
I
took a technology course this year, and was very excited to be
exposed to the various tools available to educators. This
website is itself an extension of my new-found interests, and I am
looking forward to have the chance to use this and other technological
options in the classroom.
