Isn't Christianity just a crutch for the weak? God's just your crutch.
There are some people, Christians even, who will say yes to this. "Yep, God's my crutch." As a matter of fact, one guy said, "God's not my crutch, he's my wheelchair."
I don't agree with this. There are some metaphors that work, and there are some metaphors that just don't work, and this is one metaphor that just doesn't work, and I'll tell you why.
The reason Christianity is not a crutch is because Christianity is something that I don't understand. Evolution however, I can understand that. I can go to the zoo, and I can look at the apes and gorillas. I can see the see the similarities that they have with humans, and so I can understand the idea that apes might have evolved into humans. I can understand that. I can see the life of a tadpole and how it swims in water and then grows legs and learns to walk on land and become a frog or a toad. And so I can understand the idea that fish at one time might have evolved and grown legs and become a land animal in order to walk on land. I can understand that idea. I can see the similarities between dinosaur bones and the bones of birds and so I can understand the idea that dinosaurs might have evolved into birds. I can understand that.

Christianity, however, I don't understand that. Do you know why I can't understand Christianity? The reason I cannot understand Christianity is because of Ecclesiastes 11:5 which says:
"you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things."
-Ecclesiastes 11:5
So then, I cannot understand the work of God, but just what exactly is the "work of God."

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." -James1:27
In 1Timothy Paul says to Timothy,
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." 2Timothy 2:15
     Paul called Timothy a
workman. You see, when you serve the Lord, you work for the Lord. The ministry is the work of the Lord. Christianity is the work of the Lord. Pure and faultless religion is the work of the Lord. But according to Ecclesiastes 11:5, I cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.
     Jesus said,
"The work of God is this: to believe in the one He  has sent." Jesus is the one whom God has sent. According to John chapter 1, Jesus is the Word of God. The work of God is to believe in the Word of God. Genesis chapter 1 is the Word of God. The work of God is believing in Genesis chapter 1. But according to Ecclesiastes 11:5, I cannot understand the work of God.

So then, Christianity is something I
cannot understand, while Evolution is something I can understand. Now, what is a crutch? Is a crutch something I can understand? Well, I can understand crutches. I can understand why a doctor would tell a person to lean on crutches and I can understand why that person would go ahead and take the doctor's advice and lean on crutches. Well, of course I can understand them because I can see that they have a cast on their leg. I can see that they're wounded somehow. You see, a crutch is something that I can understand. However, Proverbs 3:5 says:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight."

-Proverbs 3:5
You see, the will of God is to have faith in Him and trust in the Lord with all your heart and to lean not on the crutch of your own understanding.
I can understand why a person would lean on crutches, but then when some minister of the gospel comes along and lays hands on them and says, "In Jesus' name, be healed!," and all the sudden they don't need crutches anymore-I don't understand that. Doctors don't understand that. When some person comes into the doctor's office and gets diagnosed with some incurable desease, and then after going to church and getting prayed for and healed they come back to the doctor's office and the desease is gone-doctors don't understand that. They're baffled by it.
How do you get cured of a desease that's incurable? Doctor's don't understand that. they have the evidence that proves it. They have the before test sample and the after test sample. They have the before x-ray and the after x-ray. They have documented evidence that proves it happened-they've been healed. It's a reality that they have to admit to; they just don't understand it.

Now, think about this: C.S. Lewis understands the world of Narnia. J.R.R. Tolkien understands the world of Middle Earth. Do you know why J.R.R. Tolkien understands the world of Middle Earth? Because he made it up! He just made it up off the top of his head. Of course he understands it; he made it up!

Of course evolutionary scientists understand evolution; they made it up! And so there's all these evolutionary scientists walking around, leaning on the crutch of their own understanding, making sure to stay within the boundaries of their own little "Middle Earth"  -they're own little fantasy world of evolution theory-even though it doesn't make sense according to the fossil record. And it's contrary to the second law of thermodynamics. But they can understand it!

Just because you can understand something doesn't mean that it's real. And just because you can't understand something doesn't mean that it's false.
Christianity's not a crutch for the weak, but rather, all those things that oppose Christianity-those things are crutches for those who are weak in faith and controlled by fear! Hebrews 11:27 says (speaking of Moses),
"By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible."
-Hebrews 11:27
Now, how do you see someone who is invisible? Do you understand that? I don't understand that. But Christianity involves trusting in the Lord with all your heart and leaning not on the crutch of your own understanding.
