Cold, focused, and determined to a disturbing degree, Rufus was known majorly as the President of Shinra Inc. His stone heart and cool attitude were easily seen throughout the game, right until the very moment of his death. However, unlike the deaths of Aeris and Sephiroth, his death does not affect players very much.

Rufus is the son of President Shinra, head of Shinra Inc. After his father is killed by Sephiroth, Rufus takes over, making it clear that he will not lead the people by money, as his father did, but with fear. He can also take care of himself in a fight, with his trusty shotgun.

Rufus leads the chase of Cloud, making publicity stops on the way. At the Northern Crater, he helps Barrett and the others to escape, but shows his duplicitous manner by sentencing them to be executed for summoning Meteor. There seems to be two quite different sides to Rufus. One is the serious and commanding Rufus that controls Shinra Inc. The other is the ruthless, stubborn and mocking Rufus that fought Cloud on the rooftop of the Shira HQ and reprimanded Heidegger on almost every occasion. This is the Rufus that dares to keep the company of a black panther and use a double-barreled shotgun without so much as proper training.

Despite his untimely death, he remained cool, calm and collected until the very end.
