Rescued by the party from a cruel and dangerous experiment conducted by the Shinra Corporation, RED XIII is a mysterious yet highly intelligent and powerful animal. He is a superb close-range fighter, using his head-dress to attack enemies. His limit breaks are also extremely powerful and his magic ability is quite good. However, his defence could be a lot better.

Just as his name implies, Red XIII is a ferocious beast with flaming red fur. But despite his bestial appearance, he possesses an intelligence surpassing that of any human's and is amazingly eloquent - an astronomer, no less. His kind can live for hundreds of years. It is possible that Red XIII is a genetic experiment of the Shinra Corporation - perhaps the thirteenth of his kind. This explanation certainly accounts for his tattooed "serial number", intelligence and unique appearance. Other than that, not much is known about him. It's not even certain that Red XIII is his real name. A real enigma.
