The Papacy is one of the greatest gifts given by Christ to His Church. As such, it is also a primary focus for attack by the enemies of His Church. However, despite all of the hateful accusations, fabrications and conspiracy theories, the Throne of St Peter has managed to prove all of them wrong simply through survival. No other human institution can claim so long and unbroken a succession as the Roman Pontiffs. Since the time of its founding, every single other human institution of any kind has fallen, yet the Papacy remains. Even when all of the nations have risen to greatness only to fall into poverty, even when all of the ancient dynasties which ruled for centuries have been cast down and forgotten, even when entire peoples have been assimilated out of existence in the last 2,000 years and the very drives of life and ways of thinking have changed, the Pope in Rome still reigns supreme. As Christ said, all things human will pass away, but He shall remain forever. This very record is the greatest "proof" of divine favor which the Church could ever present. As Cardinal Newman so wisely put it, "to be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant".
