At Delia's art house, Delia Reid Ryan Coleridge Crane and Lizzie Ransom watch Dakota Smith giving his acceptance speech after he won the election for councilman on TV. Delia pops-up on the TV screen during the speech. Delia mentions that she was partly responsible for his election -- sure, Dakota has talent, but she's got the know-how and the years of experience. Lizzie is happy that Delia's in such a great mood because she has something to ask of Delia.
Lizzie wants reduced working hours with mornings off -- she talked to Maeve the day before and agreed to give custody of Owen to John, and the only time she can visit Ryan's without John being there is during the morning. Delia says she needs Lizzie during the morning and the afternoon. Lizzie becomes concerned -- she needs to see her son! "Things will be different when Ben and I get married," she sighs. Delia instantly becomes upset and asks if Lizzie and Ben have any definite plans yet. Lizzie tells her that no, they don't, and moves back to the subject of reduced working hours. Delia agrees to give her mornings off: "You can have your mornings. I'll be here all alone in the mornings, and you know I'll be bleeding inside, but I don't want to get in the way of your maternal affections. I just don't understand how you can give up a baby and a career for a bum who has no talent and who doesn't even want to marry you!" Lizzie claims Ben loves her, but Delia doesn't believe it. Lizzie gets upset with Delia and leaves, despite Delia's apologies. "Someone's got to get the goods on Ben, and it looks like it's going to be me!" Delia swears.
At the bar, Maeve is overjoyed when Jack and Zena Brown enter. Jack inquires about how things have been going at the bar. Maeve tells them that she's hasn't seen anyone looking for Zena (apparently someone has been after Zena, forcing Zena to avoid the bar and stay with Jack). Johnny comes over. Jack tells them of a new problem he has -- last night, his girlfriend, Emily Hall, came to visit him and saw Zena, which made her suspicious. Jack doesn't want her to find out about Zena's current situation. He's meeting her at the bar for a dinner date and hopes that the fact Zena is being seen with Johnny and Maeve will ease her fears. Maeve says that she really doesn't like lying to Emily, but Jack tells her it's for Emily's own good that she doesn't know about Linden (?) stalking Zena. If Emily finds out, she won't let Zena stay with Jack or at the bar. Jack gives Zena a few dollars and asks one of the bartenders to make sure she gets into a cab after he leaves with Emily.
At that point, Dakota enters with his supporters, who are cheering him on. An overjoyed Johnny leads them to a nearby table. Maeve looks a little annoyed with the gathering. Johnny asks them what they'd like and then returns to the bar. Maeve tells him they won't have room for any of the regulars with such a large gathering. Johnny reminds her that they had the bar closed when Frank was elected. Jack and Maeve give each other knowing glances.
Johnny gives Maeve a pitcher of beer, and she goes over to the supporters and gives it to them. Dakota tells her that he really appreciates her letting him have their little victory celebration. Maeve tells him it's no problem at all. Dakota begins to spill some of the beer on accident, and Maeve quips that "they've chosen the proper candidate." Dakota comments that it almost sounds like a Congratulations. "Almost," Maeve tells him.
When Maeve returns to Zena and Jack, she finds Emily Hall has joined them. Emily asks Maeve how things have been going at the bar, and Maeve tells her that there are just too many people around. "So that’s why Jack has been helping Zena with her essay," Emily notes. (She had found Zena and Jack in his apartment the day before and Jack must’ve explained that he was helping her with an essay) Zena tells Emily that Jack has been teaching her how to be 'cute' with her words. Jack tells Zena that he and Emily are going to be going now and tells her to work hard on her essay. As they leave, Jillian enters.
Jillian goes over to Maeve and asks if Frank has arrived yet. Maeve tells her he hasn't, but she wishes he had. Jillian takes notice of the party, and Maeve mentions to her that she thinks John Reid Ryan (also known as Little John Ryan) should get out of Dakota's influence and stop helping him. "It's good experience for him," Jill reassures her.
Jill goes over to congratulate Dakota. Dakota thanks her for the congratulations, but he comments that, if it were up to the Ryan's, he'd still be their bartender. Jill reassures him that it isn't true. Dakota promptly turns his attention from Jill to his supporters. "Maeve, I think you were right," Jill says, as she goes back to Maeve, "we've created a monster!"
A mysterious young man enters the bar and goes towards Dakota. He wants a word in private with Dakota. The young man goes with Dakota by the pay phones and tells him that he'd like to speak with him. Dakota tells him to meet him in his office in about half an hour.
Zena goes towards the door, but the bartender stops her. He tells her he'll help her get a cab, but Dakota detains him. Zena gets impatient from waiting and leaves. As she goes out the door, Linden follows her.
At Delia's, she's talking to a friend of hers -- Stan. They talk about her paintings and her business. Delia tells him she blames him for bringing Ben Shelley into her life and her Lizzie. "They're living in sin together!" she claims as he looks shocked. "If I had known he'd enter your life like this, I would've cut off his feet at the knees!" Stan assures her. Delia inquires about what he knows about Ben. Stan doesn't know much about him, but he tells her that Delia should contact Ben's former residence in New Orleans. Delia thinks this plan is perfect -- she'll go to New Orleans as soon as possible! Delia calls the local airport to get a ticket for the next flight there.
Jack and Emily walk through the streets of New York. As they stop near a hotel, Emily freezes and smiles when she sees a man. He comes closer to her. Jack asks her who it is. She informs him that it's her friend, Richard Rowan. He comes towards them as Jack mentions that Richard is a UN ambassador who may be running for president. Jack asks him several questions concerning his possible run for the presidency, which somewhat annoys Richard. Richard asks Emily how she is. There is an awkward silence between the two after she answers. He breaks the silence by telling Emily he has to go catch a plane, and she tells him to give her best to Sherry and their kids.
Dakota and the mysterious man enter Dakota's office. The man tells Dakota he represents a chemical company -- a chemical company that has been getting very bad publicity due to the actions of Dr. Connie D'Angelo. The man says that the company wants to make a friend who may have some influence over Connie and the Ryans. The man tells Dakota that, if he helps them, the company will pay for all of Dakota's political expenses. Meanwhile, Zena runs into the Fenelli apartment. Linden is following her! As soon as she closes the door and locks it, Linden begins pounding on it.
