Port Douglas and the Rain forests

We stayed for five nights in The Peninsula -- again, right on the beach and very nice. During our time here, we hired a car for the day and drove up to the Daintree and Cape Tribulation. We did an early morning bird-watching trip with Chris Dahlberg on the Daintree river and in the afternoon went on a walk in the rain forest at Cooper Creek Wilderness.

On another day -- well, evening -- we went on a night game-viewing trip with Wait-a-While. We were fortunate enough to see a tree kangaroo and a platypus, as well as possums.

We took one day to go back towards Cairns to take the Skyrail to Kuranda, coming back on the scenic railway. Kuranda is very much a tourist village, though we did enjoy the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary there, and also finally saw a cassowary, albeit in captivity, at the Aviary.
