Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef

Queensland was our favourite state. We started off by staying for two nights at Sebel Reef House in Palm Cove, a few kilometres north of Cairns. We had a lazy day at the beach, though the box jellyfish were around at that time of year so you need to avoid unprotected parts of the sea.

The next day we went on a 3-night cruise on the Coral Princess to the Great Barrier Reef. There are a number of Web sites about the reef; here are some:

The cruise took us to Townsville, stopping at various places on the way for snorkelling, fish-feeding, walks on the islands, etc. We flew back to Cairns and stayed for one night at Il Palazzo, very conveniently situated near the night markets in Cairns. Here are some Web sites about Cairns:
