My Journal...

Day Zero - North Rockland High School, North Rockland, NY
12pm-2:30pm
We met at the Park & Ride at Exit 35 off the
Merrit Parkway at 10:30am. We stopped into Starbucks to refuel and potty
run and then were on our way. We arrived around 12:30pm and stood in line
to begin the registration process.
Registration was a pretty quick in-and-out process.
We arrived onsite early and were among the first batch of people to watch
the Safety & Orientation video.
After the video we went to process donations we had
received to date. Eti had not submitted her contributions and had quite a
pile to submit. My processing went pretty smoothly. I handed the forms and
checks in and got the go-ahead. Unfortunately, both Eti and Phyllis had to
write extra data onto their checks. Data that I was not required to add
onto my checks. Curious.
Next stop was Self-Pledges. Since Eti and Phyllis
surpassed their minimums they were able to go to the next step. I had to
process a self-pledge. Basically this is fronting the money that was still
owed for the minimum. I had four weeks to come up with the remaining
minimum contribution before they charge my credit card.
So anyone out there that can help with donations,
PLEASE DO! Every little bit counts…
OK, next stop was Tent Assignments. I claimed Phyllis
as my tent mate before we arrived to Day Zero as I knew she’d be well
equipped. Sorry Eti… Eti got assigned to tent mate with a woman named
Regina. Phyllis and I were assigned Tent B32 and Eti was assigned right
next door to us -- B33.
That was it. We were done by 2:30pm. We headed home
to do last minute stuff. When I got home I did some emails and house
cleaning. After a pizza dinner with Keith and Sydney I got my backpack in
order and went to bed at around 10pm.
