5/31/02, Friday
Short walk today. I was feeling antsy as I was thinking of work. I want to wrap up stuff before leaving for the weekend.

5/30/02, Thursday
I got up pretty early today. Felt really good and did a 4 mile walk around Veteran's Park before work.

5/29/02, Wednesday
This morning was quite warm and in the 60s. However, it was cloudy with a layer of fog just over my head. Caught some more boat names along the docks, Power Wave and Puffin. We used to own a sailboat a couple years ago that was inherited from Keith's dad and aunt. It was named Huff-N-Puff and driven by wind (no motor attachment). T'was pretty fun to zig-zag our way towards the small nearby islands in the Norwalk Harbor.

Got an email from a Crew member, Tracy from New York, for the AIDS walk who will be trading a memory souvenir with me. In exchange for one of my dragonfly hairpins she will be creating a cartouche of my name. Neat-o! I'll post it here later. Also, we've arranged to be tent mates for the event. We'll be meeting for the first time at Bear Mountain on Day Zero. Exciting! only 50 more days!

Got an email from my cousin Melanie who said she can sponsor me! Super!

5/28/02, Tuesday
I heard thunder this morning and decided to stay in bed. About 20 minutes later the streets were drenched. It worked out alright though because I did go out for a lunch time walk with Phyllis.

5/27/02, Monday
Woke up leisurely with Keith and Sydney. We spent Memorial Day walking around the Bronx Zoo. The weather was perfect.

5/26/02, Sunday
The team walk at Cummings park went well. I started out with Gloria for 2 miles. Then Eti and Phyllis joined me. We did a good long walk. The weather was cool and sunny. However, towards the end the sky started spitting at us.

I felt more hopeful at the end of this walk. I'm confident I'll be able to handle the 20 miles a day at this point if I keep up with endurance training.

5/25/02, Saturday
I didn't do a formal walk. Did a more leisurely walk with Sydney around South Norwalk while waiting for the movie theatre to open. We were waiting to watch Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. We loved the movie! Great animation and storyline!

5/24/02, Friday
I noticed more boat names during my trip into the East Norwalk side of Norwalk Harbor... Me Shell, Linda Lou and Fish Scales.

5/23/02, Thursday
This walk was focused in Veteran's Park. The path I took was like a labyrinth. I made mini-loops near the Norwalk Harbor shore. Anyone watching might have been wondering what the heck I was doing going around and around.

Got an email from my cousin Eileen who said she can sponsor me! woo-hoo!

5/22/02, Wednesday
Got another donation in the mail! Thanks to Keith's buddy, RJ!

5/21/02, Tuesday
Walked to Veteran's Park today. I found some small paths I could walk in the park apart from the usual perimeter. I saw a group of 10 swans lounging around the Norwalk Harbor coast. Have you ever seen swans flying? From a distance, with their long necks outstretched they look like flying white penises. Whoops got a little x-rated there didn't I ;-D

5/20/02, Monday
Sorry for the inconvenience if you were trying to view the site over the weekend. Yahoo shut everything down to work on upgrading their system.

I woke up feeling pretty good. I wasn't sore from yesterday's walk and felt ready to walk some more. But, Monday being my rest day made me sleep in a bit. I did do a lunch walk to get outside into the nippy air.

Eti and Phyllis got donations over the weekend. Our team total raised is creeping up...

5/19/02, Sunday
The morning greeted the group walk members with sun and cool weather. Today's walk consisted of Gloria, Keri and myself at Sherwood Island. Keri joins us from Norwalk today. She is a fellow 3-day walker who is as ready and raring to go as we are for the big event. It was a pleasure to meet her and she may be joining us for more future walks.

I did 9 miles today which is the longest walk to date for me. I was shooting for 10 miles, but no cigar. I learned that more training is required if I want to do the 20 miles in a day deal.

5/18/02, Saturday
We got lots of rain this morning. Hence, I didn't go out for an "official walk". However, Keith, Sydney and I spent the day walking in New York city's American Natural History museum. We walked through the Dinosaur exhibit, the Rose Center for Earth and Space and the latest installment -- Baseball exhibit.

5/17/02, Friday
Made it outside for the morning walk. It was quite warm and looking like it was going to turn muggy. As I walked the Harbor View route I got my fill of the salt marsh doings. The sound of seagulls and foghorns stand out in this walk.

I met Carol Anne right before noon to drop off some Bluefish tickets. I wished her luck with sales and will touch base with her next week.

Got an email that a fellow walker,  Keri, may be joining us on Sunday.

Here's to a quadruple Hooray for the week! Came home to another donation check in the mail. Thanks Jeff!

5/16/02, Thursday
Ugh. Didn't make it out the door this morning for my walk. It was one of those mornings where the sleep is so good that you just can't jump up to go. You've got to get up leisurely so as not to shock the system.

Triple Hip Hooray! It's been a great week! Yet another donation! From my Dad! Thanks Papa!

I have in my hot little hands 100 vouchers for Bridgeport Bluefish baseball games. Tickets for sale! Tickets for sale! Get your tickets here! ($8 per ticket)

5/15/02, Wednesday
And another Hip Hip Hooray! Received another donation in the mail from Erik, Judy & Kate! Thanks a bunch!

The walk to the Shorefront Park neighborhood was a windy one. I get a view of the Norwalk Harbor in this neighborhood. At the end of one street there is access to the docks. Some of the boats I saw there were Compromise, Sole Mates, Ripper and Sound Wave. If I had a boat, what would I name it? Dragonfly comes to mind.

Walking back home I passed by a house that always sports a tacky looking front garden with plastic doo-dads displayed. For example: pansies popping out of the backs of plastic white-grey swans. However, I applaud the enthusiasm this gardener has in keeping up with it.

OK...time to spill the beans on my fundraiser ideas. Last week I called up Carol Anne whom I met at the Cannon Grange St. Patrick's Day Fair. At the fair Carol Anne  mentioned that the 4H Club that she helps organize would be interested in helping the Rocky Road Walkers with fundraising for AIDS Vaccine Research. My idea was to create a show called Hopes and Dreams starring the 4H Club members. The show would consist of kids ages 7-12 who would read selected poetry and book passages with the Hopes and Dreams theme. The script would be a compilation of pieces taken from children's and young adult works. I was going to produce and direct the hour long show which would be held possibly at the Cannon Grange Hall in the month of June. Alas, alack and anon, I found out today that the kids didn't feel comfortable being on stage. Scratch this.

The other idea I had was to sell tickets to the Bridgeport Bluefish baseball team home games in Bridgeport. The Ballpark at Harbor Yard offers a fundraising program in which part of the money obtained from ticket sales goes to non-profit groups. I plan on picking up tickets tomorrow morning. Fortunately, Carol Anne said the 4H Club may be more amenable to this fundraiser project. Yipee!

Tickets for sale! Tickets for sale! Get your tickets here!

5/14/02, Tuesday
Hooray! Another donation -- thanks to Thad & Donna!

I had a good walk this morning. It was clear and bright with a gentle breeze. However, the ground was still a bit wet from the rainfall we had all day yesterday. I wasn't dodging as many earthworms that oozed onto the pavement. The weatherpeople say that with all this rain we may be experiencing a drought-buster. Hope this is the case so that I won't feel so guilty when we open up the pool during the summer months.

As I walked, the various fallen cherry and apple blossom petals on the ground got me thinking of my favorite V.C. Andrews book series entitled Flowers in the Attic, Petals on the Wind, If There Be Thorns...  I started thinking of wacky off-shoot titles like Fishsticks on the Kitchen Floor, etc. Funny what things will come to mind while walking alone.

I walked past Veteran's Park and over to East Norwalk to Seaside Place which had some views of Norwalk Harbor from another angle. Groups of Canada Geese flew overhead honking and flapping their wings to create that nature mode for me. The walk was so nice I lost track of time and got back 20 minutes later than usual. Luckily, this was a morning where Keith could be leisurely. Sydney was still in bed.

5/13/02, Monday
Another rainy morning. I went out anyway. Hoo-ya! Die-hard walker in the makings... Walked in a drizzle. My new jacket which I got yesterday as a Mother's Day giftee held up pretty well. My inner clothes were dry when I got home.

Exciting news! Got another sponsor. Auntie Edith and cousin Astrid will be making a contribution soon...

I'm cooking up a second fundraising project. But details will follow as I do a bit more research on it.

5/12/02, Sunday
Another rainy morning. Actually the whole day was rainy. The group walk was cancelled in honor of Mother's Day. However, I did do some walking at the Cloisters Museum in New York City. We saw interesting renaissance and medieval art and architecture at this place. Despite the rain it was a nice day.

5/11/02, Saturday
I couldn't help it. I was naughty and stayed in bed this morning. I have a feeling it's in relation to the good ole PMS. Instead, I will work on fundraising. Gotta get out a couple more letters and reminder emails. I'm also working on my secret fundraising project to be revealed later this week.

I read the diaries of the various fellow walker sites and started feeling a bit behind. I gotta get on the ball...

5/10/02, Friday
Dragged myself out of bed. It was one of those mornings for me where I was reeeeally wanting to stay in bed. I finally got up... later than usual. Guess I'm needing some motivation. More donations would help ;-)

I should mention, we got this nice email last week from a fellow walker...

Hi !
Wish you were closer to me! Walker # 1537 here from Toms River, NJ. Love your website! Good luck to you, hope we "run" into each other in July.
Yvonne

I just surfed over to the AIDS Walk 3-day message board and found this inspiring network marketing motto from Eleni regarding fundraising...

"Some will, some won't, so what, NEXT!"

I also found some more fellow walker websites via pledgepage.com which I've added to the Inspiration page on this site.

5/9/02, Thursday
A 1/2 mile into the morning walk rain started coming down. Because I didn't feel like getting too wet and risk catching another cold, I turned back towards home. Short walk.

5/8/02, Wednesday
Lookin' good. Feelin' good. As I walk into a breezy morning, I'm reminded of the Absolutely Fabulous episode entitled Fat. It's the one where Edina desperately tries to lose weight before a reunion with an old friend. She psyches herself up with this mantra -- Lookin' good. Feelin' good.

Got some interesting feedback from my the eblast I sent out. Got in touch with cousin Patrick, Aunt Mary and high school buddy Suzan! Great to hear from you!

I have a brainstorm for a possible fundraising event. But I'll fill in with details later.

5/7/02, Tuesday
Woke up with a raging headache. But, I was determined to do some walking. I took a couple Excedrin and by the end of my 2 mile walk my head was somewhat clear and my body felt pretty invigorated. I sure do hope I don't have a cold or headaches on the actual event days.

Good news! Bradshaw Construction will be making contribution! This is the company Keith works with.

5/6/02, Monday
Thank you Odette! She was the mystery donation over the weekend! Love these surprise donations!

I'm feeling better and less congested today. Am going to walk tomorrow morning per usual.

I eblasted some family and friends (you know who you all are)  today to see if they would be interested in becoming my sponsors. My universe is small so I've got to think up some more ways to fundraise.

5/5/02, Sunday
The team walk went well today. Eti and Phyllis met me at Mianus Park. It was a beautiful warm and bright day compared to last Sunday. We encountered lots of people with dogs and mountain bikers along the nature trails.

Got another mystery donation via web this weekend. Wonder who? Thanks to ya!

Keith has taken to writing some letters tonight to help me with donations. He has inspired me to do the same. I'm breaking out the stationery.

5/4/02, Saturday
I didn't make it out again. I was congested and feeling like waking up leisurely this morning. Although I do feel much better than yesterday. I think if I continue to take it easy, this cold may blow over by Monday. I do plan to be at the group walk tomorrow as my mileage the last two weeks have been low. Gotta continue to beef up.

5/3/02, Friday
I didn't make it out this morning. I wanted to get in as much sleep as possible to kick this cold thing I may have caught. I think it kinda helped as I feel a bit better than yesterday. I'm going to do the same thing tonight and go to bed earlier than usual. Took a lunch walk with Phyllis to pick up lunch.

I just found out that this website will be down from May 15-19 due to web host server updates and upgrades. I'll put another reminder as the date draws near. However, I will continue to make my entries. So, when the site is up and running again you'll be able to catch up.

5/2/02, Thursday
It was a  miserable morning. I woke up to rain and a sore throat. ugh. I decided not to go out for the morning walk. I was going pretty well there without any colds. Phyllis and I didn't get to do our usual lunch walk either. It was pretty wet out. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

5/1/02, Wednesday
The sun rising over the marsh painted a pink hue in the sky. Beautiful sight. What amazing sights and sounds one can experience by being outdoors during the early morning hours. I listened to the walking CD again today. It is pretty good. The only downside is carrying the CD player. For lighter weight and to avoid skipping I think using an mp3 player might be the ticket. I've been thinking of getting an mp3 player for awhile now and this is just one more good reason to get it. hmmmm.
