R/C SU-26MX Fuselage photos

side frame
The fuselage side frames.
matching the sides
One side pinned on top of the other to get the alignment right.
matching the sides
Same as above, but different view.
formers on the sides
The formers and the landing gear strengthener glued in place.
the wing joiner sleeve
The wing joiner sleeve is made in one piece to help with accuracy.
glueing the sleeve in place
The sleeve, cut in half, sanded and being glued to the fuselage sides.
wing retaining bolt brackets
A blurry shot of the wing retaining bolt brackets, in place on the fuselage sides.
joining the fuselage sides
The fuselage sides, being joined up-side down on the plan.
firewall and landing gear plate
The firewall and landing gear plate glued in place on the fuselage.
another shot of the fuselage
The fuselage rear view while the landing gear plate and firewall are drying.
fuselage bottom sheeting
Sheeting the bottom of the fuselage. I've got to get some wooden clothes-pegs, the plastic ones dent the balsa.
hatch before sheeting
The hatch before sheeting.
I think I should have sheeted and removed the hatch before sheeting the fuselage bottom.
hatch being sheeted
Still haven't got any wooden pegs.
more hatch
The hatch minus the pegs.
the hatch removed
After cutting the hatch off of the fuselage I had to repair some damage I had done in the process.
looking at the bits
Trying to get the enthusiasm up for the next step.
tank compartment
Adding some tri-stock balsa to the inside of the forward fuselage.
cockpit floor
It isn't very easy to see but here there are some strips of balsa being laminated to the top fuselage longerons just next to the cockpit floor.
top sheeting
The top turtledeck sheeting being glued in place. All the pins etc were needed because I was using white glue (PVA)
sheeting the sides 1
Most of the fuselage side can be sheeted with one piece of 2.5mm balsa sheet.
sheeting the sides 2
The gap between the top and bottom sheeting is filled with a strip of 2.5mm balsa.
top of the wing fairing
The top of the wing fairing was planked rather roughly, planning on filling and sanding it later.
bottom of the wing fairing
The bottom of the wing fairing is considerably easyer to sheet because it is flat (in one direction anyway).
facing the wing stubbs with ply
I used 1.5mm ply to face the wing stubbs. The ply also adds the strength needed for the wing locating pins.
bottom fin/rudder hinge block
The fuselage needs a spacer at the back and this is it.
fin being glued in place
The fin being glued in place.
The engine bay. The ring of balsa around the edge of the fuselage was a last minute change made so that the cowl could fit over the fuselage instead of butting up against it.
