Welcome to my website.

Geocities is closing on the 26th October 2009!
This website is being moved (and will be modified in the process...) to http://rcsu26mx.wikispaces.com/.

Hi, my name is Erik, I live in Auckland, New Zealand.
I first started flying radio controlled planes in June 1994 with a 2 channel glider. For most of my childhood I built and flew model aeroplanes, at first sheet balsa chuck gliders and then stick and tissue rubberband powered models (although I wasn't very successful with getting the stick and tissue planes to fly really well).

I made this website basically because I wanted to offer my plans for my Sukhoi 26 to anyone who might be interested, but I've gone and put some other stuff here as well.

As of the 8th of February 2000 the Sukhoi plans are finished and ready to download. The building notes are also finished and hopefully they will help anyone who decides to build the sukhoi.

At the moment I am taking a break from flying, the last time I flew was 17 september 2000. I'm not sure how long the break will last, but I intend to get back into it one day.

New Stuff:

  • 11th May 2006: Added a link to René Harb's website with photos of the sukhoi he is building on the Other People's Sukhois page.

  • 12th April 2006: Added a couple of links on the sukhoi intro page for a carbon fibre undercarriage and a laser cutting service.

  • 4th April 2006: I've added links to 2 sets of 3-view drawings of the full size sukhoi on the R/C Sukhoi 26mx page.
I still haven't started flying again, just studying and riding/fixing my motorcycle.

  • 23rd September 2004: Micah Abel sent in some pictures of his sukhoi with hopefully more to follow. See them on the Other People's Sukhois page.
I've also changed the download page so that the plans files are hosted on another site as well as this one. Hopefully this will prevent this site from going over Geocities' bandwidth limit.

  • 5th June 2004: Added a link to http://www.aerosquare.com/ to the Links page. A neat website with plans for both planes and a CNC milling machine.

  • 14th May 2004: I've recently learned how to create pdf files. Because the software for viewing and printing pdf documents is far more common, I thought I'd put up pdf versions of the sukhoi plans to help with printing them, as I think that pretty much all print/copy shops should be able to print from a pdf, but maybe not all will be able to print from a dxf file. I've also updated the About Me page.

  • 28th April 2003: Put a link on the Other People's Sukhois page to a website with pictures of larger sukhois based on my design.

  • 25th April 2003: Added another set of photos from someone else that has built the sukhoi. See Juanfra's sukhoi photos on the Other People's Sukhois page.

  • 16th April 2003: Added a page with suggested control throws for the sukhoi here.

  • 15th March 2003: Added a link to Joacim Göransson's website on the links page. Also updated the About Me page.

  • 22nd February 2003: Added a link to a Russian site with 3-view drawings of the SU-26. See the Links page.

  • 21st February 2003: Updated the pic on the About Me page (because I recently got a digital camera :) ).

  • 14th January 2003: Added a link to the sukhoi intro page for plan printing.

  • 4th January 2003: I added a sketch of how the wings attach to the fuselage, and a photo of the muffler with the dimensions listed. There are links for both on the sukhoi intro page. I also added 4 photos that show how I lowered the tailplane to try (in vain) to reduce the rudder/elevator coupling to the Misellanious R/C SU-26MX photos page. These photos are from some time in 2000, they aren't new, I just hadn't added them before. I corrected my spelling of "lose" (I'd spelled it as "loose") on the About Me page. I also changed the order of other people sukhoi contributions on the Other People's Sukhois so that the newest contributions are at the top.

  • 5th September 2002: Another sukhoi has been added to the Other People's Sukhois page, from Angelo in Greece. Go check it out, there are several nice big pictures.

  • 23rd June 2002: It's holidays for me right now, so I have finally had time to update the website address on the plans. All the plans should now sport the current website address, rather than the old http://www.rcmodels.com/planes/rcsu26mx/ one.

  • 1st June 2002: I've added another sukhoi to the Other People's Sukhois page. Go see the photos!

  • 3rd April 2002: I have added another sukhoi to the Other People's Sukhois page and updated the webring thing at the bottom of this page.

  • 20th February 2002: I have moved the website from http://www.rcmodels.com/planes/rcsu26mx/ to this new address at geocities. I had received several emails from R/C Models indicating that they were trying to sell their website/shop, and then recently when I tried to update the website hosted on their server, I encountered error messages. Anyway, incase they end up shutting down their servers or stoping their free hosting service, I have moved the site to geocities. The up sides of moving are a permanent address (hopefully), the ability to use an ftp program to upload my files (rcmodels.com had a web based interface that was very time consuming), and a new counter. The downside is the adverts that yahoo/geocities uses to keep the website free, but I think they aren't so bad. At least they aren't pop up adds.
I also updated/changed the About Me page a bit.

  • 13th January 2002: Alex Kolyvanov has started construction of his sukhoi, so I have added him to the Other People's Sukhois page, and I received a letter saying that the lease for the Roskill Modeler's Club flying field ended on the 3rd of January, so I have updated the flying field page accordingly.

  • 31st December 2001: Valerio Tempieri from Italy has sent me some photos of his sukhoi. Now I've got two people's sukhois on the Other People's Sukhois page!

  • 26th December 2001: I have updated the sukhoi specs to include the weight of Jarmo's sukhoi so as to give a clearer idea of the possible weight range of the model.

  • 25th December 2001: I stumbled across the Airplane Model Plans website at it's new location while searching for info on removing headers from emailed CAD files, and have added it to the links page again. I'm pleased I found it because it's got some interesting plans.

  • 4th December 2001: Alex Kolyvanov has offered to laser cut the parts and print the plans. See the link on the Sukhoi Intro page. I also updated the links page.

  • 27th November 2001: Someone gave me the link to The Panorama Factory and so I used it to stitch the flying field photos together. Now you can hardly see any join lines at all, compared to before when they were clearly visible.

  • 12th November 2001: Jarmo Laine from Finland has built and flown a sukhoi and sent me some photos and a review. I have added the Other People's Sukhois page to the website complete with Jarmo's review and photos. I've also updated the About Me page and changed the website address on the plans to the correct one, instead of the old, out of date one. Apologies for taking so long to add the new pages.

  • 29th April 2001: The website has moved. It is now hosted by www.rcmodels.com. Also... the page counter has gone because I'm not sure how to set one up at rcmodels.com and I've been sitting at the computer too long today already to try to figure it out right now. The last reading before the site moved was 11776 hits since the 12th of August 1999.

  • 16th April 2001: I updated the about me page again and checked all the links to other websites, deleting some and updating others.
