Modification chip (Modchip) is an add-on codes (hex codes) programmed in a bare chip and is used to enhance your console having more features than original one. Modification of PlayStation2 (PS2) for playing pirated games or any region DVD games/movies is somehow illegal, because when you install any chips, which make your PS2 plays everthing as it was never intended for, violetes certain laws that prohibit manipulation of registered electronic devices (patented). In addition, when you open your PS2 within its warranty, it will automatically be voided.
