Cross of Love
That was the event in 1863, when that Christian missionary from Germany started the beginning of a new era in life of the Bataks to whom Christian religion is not known. Nommensen died on May 23,1918 and buried in Sigumpar Village about 60 Km north of Tarutung. In 1993/94, the local government of North Tapanuli erected Salib Kasih " Cross of Love", 31 meters height on the top of Siatas Barita hill. On this place, at certain times, the Batak people and tourist hold a communion service in the open air, and every week this place is visited by 200 to 300 local and foreign tourists.
Bakkara
Bakkara is name of village in the valleys of Muara district by the Lake Toba. Here found the Palace of King Sisingamangaraja, that restored in 1992. The graves of King Sisingamangaraja X & XI will be found in this location.
Until the early 20th Century Bakkara was centre of the Kingdom of King Sisingamangaraja XII and national hero (Government Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No.590, November 9 , 1961). King Sisingamangaraja XII fell during the battle against the Dutch in 1907 on the slopes of Sitapongan Mountain near Pearaja, North Tapanuli, and buried in Soposorung, Balige. Once in the palace-ground what teases the eye are the white flowers of the Bangkok Bougainvillea and the neat placement of the river pebbles.
Huta Ginjang
Huta Ginjang meaning highlands. Intriguing splendour of the hills (200 meters above the Lake Toba), embracing gentle and cool breeze.
Tugu Makam
Tomb monument are designed in style. The design found inspiration from the deceased life story, expressed by form of statue, and diorama in the style of typical Batak architecture. Monument tombs in bigger scale are found in several locations. The tombs with proper management, it will become an attractive and potential tourist object.
