Masterful QT and potent Wildcats are squashing opponents like bugsThere are two powerful forces in northeastern Illinois that are destroying everything in their path. Don't try to stop them because you'll be flattened like a pancake. Run for shelter! Get out of their way! Save yourself! No, the Chicago area is not being ravaged by deadly tornadoes or attacked by cold-blooded terrorists. It's not the wrath of Godzilla or King Kong. Hurricanes and typhoons are out of the question, too. We're talking about the incredible strength of the Wilmington Wildcats and QT Pie, who both are crushing their competition like steamrollers motoring through a pumpkin patch. It's really bad news for anything in the way. The Wildcats improved to 11-0 on Saturday by stomping Hampshire 21-7 and moving into the quarterfinals of the Class 3A high school football playoffs. Wilmington has outscored its rivals 464-52 during its dominant run. This Saturday the Cats will host Driscoll, which has won three straight titles in Class 4A, but got bumped down to Class 3A this year. Poor Highlanders. Do they know they're standing on railroad tracks and about to be hit by a speeding locomotive? Look away. In Week 9 of the Sunday Football Picks, Mark was standing in QT's way by virtue of holding first place. But after losing all six disagreements with his sister, Mark suffered his worst record in more than two years (5-8) and was shoved into second place. He accidentally didn't pick any underdogs, and was punished accordingly by the almighty Picks Gods. Everyone knows they frown upon things like that. Don't test them. QT was 11-2 while the favored teams were only 5-8. Her 6-game advantage over the favorites set a Picks record! Her only losses were the Bears surprising the Giants 28-21, and the Raiders edging the Panthers 27-24. One of her specialties with Ali and D.J. was the solar-powered Bucs upsetting the Chiefs 34-31 in the bright Florida sunshine. QT is now 75-44 and boasts a four-game lead atop the standings after blasting everyone two weeks in a row. In that short span, she beat Mark and D.J. by eight games, Ali by seven, Nicki by six and Blaine by five. Speaking of the Raiders victory, Ali was the only person who predicted it. After all, Oakland was a 7-point underdog in Carolina. The brave Little Bird said she got ticked when she chose the Raiders and her dad responded, "The Raiders? Oh my God!" Ali showed him! Her dad has challenged the ruling that he made the negative statement, and the incident is under review. If he's wrong, he'll be penalized with a timeout in the corner. Nicki and D.J. have been duking it out at the bottom of the standings, and Nickster is momentarily ahead. Her Patriots beat Girlie's Rams 40-22, so the Glenn Westlake sixth-grader holds a one-game lead over the Glenbard East junior. See, their fights aren't restricted to daily verbal squabbles. There's more to quarrel about! |
