Proposition 70
What is Proposition 70?
- The governor must execute
a renewable 99-year gaming compact
- Grants of tribal gaming rights
would include: no limits on number of machines, facilities, type
of games on Indian Land, lottery games, roulette, craps banking
and percentage card games.
- The tribes would contribute
a percentage of net gaming income, based on prevailing start
corporate tax rate, to state fund.
- The tax rate would stay at
8.84%
ARGUMENT: Against
Proposition 70
- Governor Schwarzenegger is against it and strongly advise you
to vote No on Proposition 70
- Several years have passed and the Indian gaming tribes have paid
almost nothing to states or local governments.
- This Prop. Claims that tribes will pay a percentage of their net
force, but doesn’t provide the state any auditing vehicle to
determine those profits. Without the audit, taxpayers will not be
able to know if they’re getting a fair deal.
- This Prop. Encourages tribes to put casinos in the major cities,
which will eventually increase the crime and traffic congestion problems.
- This Prop. does not provide any money for law enforcement, environment,
environmental impacts, and transportation.
Opinion:
In our opinion, we feel that Proposition 70 should be pass because
the Indians were here first and it’s wrong doing if we interrupt
with their business. Also California ’s going bankrupt and if
this proposition doesn’t get pass, our state will be losing billions
of more dollars. For once, we should think of others and not of ourselves.
