Easter Peek a Boo Eggs

Kindergarten Peek a Boo eggs are "sitting" in a tree branch until it is time to take them home.
Some 4th graders got to make their eggs during an after school activity.

PUPPET THEATER

The first year that I had my own classroom, I built a complete puppet theater for the students to use during center time. It was one of my best investments of time and money. Here are two Kindergarten students standing in front of it.

SILKWORMS
One year, another teacher asked me if my class would like some silkworms and, of course, I said "YES!" I knew nothing about growing them so I had to learn along with my students! For three years, I had silworms in my class. The students really enjoyed seeing the eggs hatch, the silkworms making their cocoons, and the the moths laying eggs. Each year, I saved the eggs in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator until the following spring when the Mulberry tree on our playground was in bloom. The silkworms only eat Mulberry trees leaves so that was a necessity to have access to the leaves. We always had so many eggs that I could share with teachers who did not have any the year before.

Hmmmmmmm . . . I am not sure I want to hold a silkworm!

We like to hold them!

"See, girls can hold them too!"

I have a whole handful . . . mine is on the tip of my finger!

SPELLING BEE and SNOWFLAKE PROJECT

These are our 4th grade Spelling Bee representatives. The bulletin board in the background is a favorite project of mine. Each student made a snowflake out of white tissue paper and glued it to a blue paper background. On an index card, they wrote why they are unique. You can also see our school motto above the bulletin board: "Today's Readers Are Tomorrow's Leaders."
CHICCA CHICCA BOOM BOOM

This is our Kindergarten "Chicca ChiccaBoom Boom" bulletin board with coconut trees and our first initials on the trunk of each tree. We made them the first week of school.
JOURNALING WITH HUGGA BEAR

Every year I taught Kindergarten, I bought a new bear for a student to take home for the weekend. It had a backpack and a little journal inside the backpack. Parents wrote in the journal for the students. On Monday, we got to read all about Hugga Bear's adventures. Hugga bear got to go to a wedding, to Sunday School, to eat pizza, to the playground and even made a snowman in the hills of southern California! At the end of every Kindergarten year, I raffled off Hugga Bear and one lucky student got to keep it permanantly.
