Recipes
by Annette Avila
I am not a native-born Mexican, just
married to one for the last 36 years. I was born in London, England during the
Second World War and relocated to the United States with my mother after the war
ended. Spicy food was not part of my upbringing, so it was a shock to my taste
buds when I met Ricardo Avila, a native Mexican.
One memorable occasion while we were dating
was at a wedding in Mexico City when I thought the sliced Jalapeņos were string beans. The
entire room was silently watching me as I shoved an entire forkful into my
mouth. Obviously, I was the entertainment for the wedding.
After we married, my mother-in-law was
concerned that my husband would die of starvation so she made sure to teach me
her recipes. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. So I started
seeking out recipes from other relatives and friends. I believe that I have become a good Mexican
wife, providing you don't take into consideration my liberated American
character.
Over the years I have accumulated many more
recipes. Some years ago I taught Mexican cooking in adult education. My current
career is web page designer so I am taking this opportunity to share some of my
recipes with you on the internet. I will be adding more
recipes as time permits. I invite you to sign my guest book and if you like,
submit your favorite Mexican recipes. I will add it to this site with your name,
after it has been tested.
If this site is successful, I would like to
establish additional sites. One, for example, would be dedicated only chocolate recipes.
Another may be just desserts or fish and seafood, whatever you, the reader would
like. Leave your e-mail address in the guest book and
I will keep you posted.
