The date is Midsummer in the Year 31 since the Resurgence, or June 23, 2000, as the mortals reckon time. Almost two years have passed since the spectacular attempt by the Bedlam-struck Duke Brendan to summon a dragon to the mortal city of Boston. Since then, Count Dumas of House Eiluned has ruled the Duchy in the name of Queen Mab, refusing the title of "Duke" and managing -- just barely -- to keep the peace between Commoner and Noble, Seelie and Unseelie. But recent events throughout Concordia have shown that, without the leadership of the long-missing High King David, the horrors of the Accordance War are about to return. The Setting:
Count Dumas has summoned Kithain from throughout the Duchy to attend his court at the crystal palace of Caer Asterlan, for Midsummer Night festivities. Some rumor that he intends to step down as regent and choose a true Duke who will guide Novanglia through the coming crisis. If that is true, who will rule? Baron Sean of the Cross, of House Fiona, whom Brendan long regarded as his likely successor, is the favorite, but the Unseelie, primarily the disgraced Countess Ava D'Intino, say that the chaos throughout Concordia is certain proof that the Seelie have failed. Some commoners, Seelie and Unseelie, say that noble rule has failed, and it is time to replace it with something more modern -- democracy or anarchy, depending on the tastes of the critic...
