PICTURE
PERFECT RAGLAN
This Wednesday
I bolted straight out to Raglan after my morning exam and scored classic
Raglan. I pulled up to be greeted by picture perfect 4-5ft peaks
at Indicators. It was absolutely smoking, with sucky take-offs on the peak
and peeling into and all the way across the Valley (around 100ms), lots
of barrels too. There were only just over 10 other guys out and it was
one of the most perfect days I have ever seen in my three years surfing
at Raglan, every wave was sick. There were a couple of other boogers out
including Simon Thompson and apparently Dale Sattler scored Manu Bay going
off the day before at a solid 4-5ft.
SICK
SHIPPIES
The Far
North's underground charger Barry Beazely reports that he has been scoring
all-time Shippies this winter due to the consistently large swells that
the West coast has been producing this winter. He's been seen ripping it
up at Super Tubes, Peaks and the Bay just to name a few.

Raglan Cranks
On Tuesday of last week a day
after an 8-10ft swell rocked the West coast Raglan turned it on. On tuesday
morning Dlae Sattler, Grimp Reid, Glen Mossomg and myself were gretted
by a solid and very consitent 4ft clean Ledge at Manu Bay which was barreling
from top to bottom. We all scored heaps of fun pits and number of heavy
beatings during the 4 hours surf with Dale snaking the best barrels of
the day. The weather around New Zealand has been extremely cold lately
which has been rad for Raglan as the majority of the crowds have been driven
away, only two other surfers were out at Manu Bay when we turned up a11am.
Paul Meyer in Aussie
Paul Meyer has been living in
Maroubra Australia for the last two months where he has been working at
work at a shoe repair shop and getting some really good surfs at
Maroubra beach and Tamarama beach.

BOYS IN BRAZIL
What up??
Its Gavin And Lowey here
just updating you on the happenings here in Brazil. On the second day of
competition at the ISA world surfing games the tension got a bit much for
Lowey. After a small altercation with Brazilian Guiliherme Tamega, after
taking down a couple of young upstarts in his first heat he was explaining
a few of the finer points of how to ride a bodyboard to Tamega when without
warning Lowey pushed Tamega to the ground
mumbling something about
the Brazilian former world champion about being a kook.He is now focused
on frying bigger fish than Tamega, namely Aussie Ben Holland who has had
the unfortunate luck of drawing the Greymouth
ripper in his second round
heat.
As for Gavin it is not such
a happy story, according to Lowey he blew it big time in his first round
heat against the lower ranked Japanese and Namibian Bodyboarders. After
the heat Lowey was unstoppable with his scathing
remarks of Gavins surfing.
"Those guys were Kooks I would have beaten them in my sleep etc..."
After his first round performance
Lowey has now put his hand up as one of the hot favourites for the event.
No, seriously I lost in
my first heat it was a really easy one and Lowey got through his but tomorrow
he is going to show Ben Holland a few tricks.
I still have repecharges
which should be easy (according to Lowey).
Hope everything in NZ is
cool and with the boys in Aussie.

RYAN HARDY WINS TAHITI SKINS EVENT.
In 12-foot surf at Teahupoo
Tahiti, Australian Ryan Hardy outclassed a star-studded field, especially
in the final where 13 World Championship titles were spread out between
Mike Stewart and Guilherme Tamega. Alistair Taylor of South Africa came
in a distant second, Tamega third and Stewart fourth.
Tamega caught the first
wave of the final, but didn't receive a very high score. Riders were allowed
to catch as many waves as they wanted in the 30-minute final and
could claim three waves, but would be scored on only the top two rides.
Taylor followed Tamega with a super-late drop and pulled in on a wave that
he claimed, scoring a 7.5. Tamega caught his second wave which was medium-sized,
his first claim.
Hardy quickly followed and
claimed his first ride. The Brazilian and Australian scored 6.5 and 4.5
respectively. Hardy's second wave was a claim, one that got the animals
on the boat yelling; it was worth 8.5. Stewart caught his first wave, a
bad one, halfway through the final. Taylor rode on the foam ball on his
wave and blasted a roll; the claim earned him a 6.8.
With just 11 minutes remaining,
Stewart took his second wave, but it was another non scoring ride. Tamega's
third wave was a deep barrel, and Hardy got everyone's attention on his
next wave. The Aussie took off super late, drove for a few yards and suprised
everyone when he did a heavy belly spinner under the lip. It was one of
the heaviest maneuvers of the day. When he came out and claimed his wave,
not only were the Aussies screaming, but so were the Hawaiians, Californians
and locals. Score: Perfect 10s. At this point, there were seven minutes
remaining and Stewart had claimed one wave and Tamega and Taylor had two
each. Both were unable to catch the Aussie even with perfect 10s because,
they wouldn't have a high enough combined score. The only other rider in
the heat capable of catching Hardy was Stewart. But with time ticking away
and inconsistent sets rolling through, it was evident that Hardy would
become the champion. The final countdown came, and the Aussie sat in the
channel with tears in his eyes and his fists in the air. His fellow tribe
of criminals attacked him with pure delight.

WEEKEND WAVES
As you all would know, New Zealand
has been battered by harsh weahter conditions over the past week by numerous
lows surrounding the country. Raglan has been big and messy with lumpy
swells and onshore winds with the only rideable waves to be had at hide
tide. On Friday I tripped to Whangamata to socre the bar at a very
fun and clean 3ft with not to many guys out. The bar is a damb fun wave.
That same day Dale Sattler and Glen Mossong scored a very heavy and solid
4-5ft Whitoria beach with mutant shorey barrels coming in all over the
place. On Saturday Simon Thompson scored the Mount at a fun 3ft.
