Howzit everyone, I don't
have any new news at the moment but I am thinking of adding some new areas
onto the website but I will need your help. I'm thinking of adding a section
on Surf spot reviews so if you guys can send reviews of your local spot
and some pics then I'll stick it on the site. The other section I want
to add is a letters section and a what's hot and what's not section which
will be made up of your e-mails, so send me e-mails on anything that is
on your mind whether it be bodyboarding, school, girls anything, send it
and I'll stick it up. I won't be able to add this sections without your
help. Thanks to everyone who has already sent me pics I'll stick them up
soon when I scan some more pics.

NZ Nationals Results
The NZ BSD National bodyboard
titles where held at Mahia Pennusulia from the 14th -21st of January. Overall
the contest went well although there was three days in the middle of the
contest that the contest was not run due to lack of waves. Unfortunately
a number of competitors were not able to stay around for the last two days
of the comp and were forced to pull out. Below are the results. An
official press release will be up soon and we plan to have a point rankings
system up on the site for the NZ tour similar to what the G.O.B has.
Also watch out for many more pictures coming soon.

Ben's Good Pipe Run
Ends
Competing in the second round
on January 6 in 7-10 foot Pipeline against Australians Troy Kneeves, Tyson
Williams and Hawaiian Jesse Cooper, Ben Mackinnon failed to progress. After
being announced first in the heat the judges announced there had been a
mix up with the colours and Ben placed third behind Troy Kneeves and Jesse
Cooper.
The heat was very close
with every one of Ben’s waves being a spitting barrel.
Ben put in a great effort
in the comp and done our country proud.

Aggro at Raglan
Dale Sattler had some good surfs
at Mahia over New Years.
He also scored Indicators
at a solid barreling 6ft with only 15 guys out which he surfed for
6 hours. When returning to the Whale Bay carpark Dale was lucky enough
to witness a local surfer beating the crap out of a disrespectful blow-in
surfer. It's funny how many surfers seem to not only dislike bodyboarders
but they also fight amongst themselves while most bodyboarders are stoked
to see other boogers in the surf. It seems to me that guys who constantly
get aggro in the surf are surfing for the wrong reasons. Get over it, life's
to short to hate.

Ben makes it through
first round at Pipe
Ben MacKinnon continues his
awesome run at the 2000 Mike Stewart International Pipeline pro by making
it through his first round heat in 8-10ft Pipe. Way to go Ben!!!
In his next heat he faces
Australia's Tyson Williams and Paul Cooper. Go hard Ben.
That is all the info I have
so far, some of the details may not be 100% correct.
More Pipe Results
Day one (Jan 5th) - Featured

of the women's trials held in 4-6 foot Pipeline surf.

surf.
Upsets and suprises include:
Men's- Top riders

Mackenzie, Mitchell Rawlins, and Chris Burkart who missed his heat.
Hubbard's controversial interference was initiated by Brazil's Mauricio
Montanha who eventually lost out in Main Event Round Two.

favorites Jenn Marr and Robin Cardoza.
Dropknee- Out
of the competition after round one are Manny Vargas, Robbie Gall, Ardiel

Dodgy Bayleys Beach
Today John Diamond, Joseph Carrol
and friends tripped over to Dargavile's Bayleys Beach to escape the flat
East Coast. They scored some nice 3ft peaks but were driven out of the
surf early by the extremely vibrant sea life.
While last weekend they
scored their sick secret reef Muff's pumping at 2-3ft and were stranded
there for two days when a friend drove home with their car keys in his
car, bummer.
Meanwhile over New Years
Port Waikato's Simon Thompson scored a number of very good surfs at a variety
of breaks around the Gisborne area.
Sick Shippies Again!
Once again I was driven up to
Shippies to escape the consistently crap and flat Northern East Coast on
Wednesday the 5th. Psyched up with the weather forecast of a 2m swell I
was amazed to find almost all of the points barely over a foot. However,
once I turned the corner at Blue House I was greeted by a sick solid 4ft
peak perfect for DK. I surfed Blue House's Raglan like waves for the next
two days as the swell slowly dropped to a very inconsistent 3ft on
Friday. Stoked with the primo waves I had over the last few days I returned
home very, very tired.

Ben MacKinnon qualifies
for the Main event at the Mike Stewart International Pipeline pro
A press release just recieved
from Gavin Murdoch at BBNZ. These are all the details I have so far, but
Ben MacKinnon of Wanganui has made it through the Pipe Qualify rounds at
Turtle Bay to qualify for the main event at Pipeline becoming the first
New Zelander to do so (I think). Well done mate!!! Let's hope that his
success continues and that he will make it through many more rounds in
the event and maybee even to the final. Good luck Ben!!
PRESS RELEASE
Today on the North Shore of
Hawaii New Zealand’s top rated Bodyboarder Ben MacKinnon has qualified
for the main event of the 2000 Mike Stewart International Pipeline Pro.
In order to qualify Ben had to finish in the top 8 of 64 competitors. After
finishing 1 place outside the top 8 last year he is really pleased to be
able to be the First New Zealander to Qualify for the event in it’s 18-year
history.
After qualifying in difficult
3-4 foot conditions on another North Shore venue Ben is optimistic that
his past months training in Hawaii has prepared him well for the much bigger
and more powerful waves of the Banzai Pipeline.
After travelling to Portugal
earlier in the year to compete in one of the 5 events of the Global Organisation
of Bodyboarding World tour Ben was Rated 98 in the World. Since Qualifying
for the Main event in Hawaii his world ranking will rise considerably.
The "Mike Stewart international
Pipeline Pro" is the first major wave riding event of the new millennium
and marks a new era for the sport of Bodyboarding. Mike Stewart 11
time winner and the only athlete to win the event more than once takes
over sponsorship of the worlds most prestigious bodyboarding event at the
Banzai Pipeline on the North shore of Oahu in Hawaii.
The "Banzai pipeline" is
bodyboarding’s premier wave riding venue and complements Stewart's vision
for the sport, to hold competitions in "waves of consequence." "This
is a great forum that will allow the best athletes to show the world how
incredibly dynamic this sport is". His vision is finally being realised
with the formation of the Mike Stewart international Pipeline Pro.
This event will crown world
champions in three divisions; women's, men's and drop-knee. There will
also be the prestigious title of pipeline champion along with a new division
for the most radical "air" manoeuvre.
The event features four full
days of competition at the Banzai Pipeline and is the last and highest
rated event of the Global Organisation of Bodyboarders World Tour.
Ben will be back in New Zealand
to compet in the 2000 New Zealand Bodyboard National Titles in Mahia Peninsula
from Jaruary 15- 21

New Years Madness.
New Zealand was the first country
in the world to see in the new Millennium and many of NZ boogers took advantage
of this once in a 1000 years party by running riot all over New Zealand.
Hemi Holden, David "the
Goose" Campbell, Cameron Hurst spent new years at Waipu. While also at
Waipu Whangarei's Joseph Carrol, Jon Diamond and Aaron & Leon Taylor
were involved in a few Millennium firsts. They were lucky enough to witness
perhaps the Millennium's first knife fight and took part in the Millennium's
first nude surf at midnight at Lang's beach, pretty dodgy if you ask me.
While Mark and Chris Hubbard ran amuck at Whananaki North, tormenting many
a young lady. Happy new Millennium everyone!!!

KIWI RIPPERS RETURN
HOME
Auckland bodyboarders Cameron
Hurst, Dave Campbell, Hemi Holden and Kevin McAlister have just returned
from their successful trip to Aussie. While in Aussie they managed to score
a place to stay with Chris Apps in Port Macquarie and got fun waves at
Blackrock, Mystics, Port Mac and D-bah. A more detailed review of the trip
is coming soon from Kevin. Welcome home guys.

Finally waves on
the East Coast
The last three days the East
coast (above Gisborne) has recevied the best swell it has had in over a
month. Although there has been a few fun little swells over the past month
the last few days has easily been the best it has been for quite a while.
Yesterday was 3ft with some good 4ft sets and a light offshore breeze at
Whangarei's Ocean Beach where the banks were going off at high tide with
all the local crew out. Today
Pataua Bar was a fun 2-3ft at low tide. Ocean Beach was 3-4ft at high tide
but the waves weren't breaking to there true potential due to the extremely
strong offshore winds but there was still many a barrel to be had despite
the cold.

Sick Shippies
Whangarei's Ocean Beach crew
of John Diamond, Joesph Carrol, Aaron Taylor and Chris Hubbard charged
up to Shipwreck bay to catch a dying 3m swell. We arrived on Wednesday
morning to score lowtide Peaks at 3-4ft and offshore. The swell dropped
as the day went on and that avro we scored Pines at a clean 4ft and uncrowded.
However the swell dropped overnight and we were greeted by a weak 2ft at
Pines in the morning.
