Surfing in Dunno's over
the summer was more like surfing in the winter with cool temperatures and
large swells.
The main focus of wave action
was at The Cove which absolutly pumped day after day with heavy, mutant
barrels, perfect for boogieboarding.
Allan's Beachie also had
some very solid, clean peaks complete with a seal or two.
St Kilda has had one of
it's best months for ages with a cranking bank in front of the surf club,
where epic hollow peaks up to 4ft have been breaking. A majority of the
people out are boogers which is sick to see.
Blackhead only really broke
once over January where it was 2-4ft with a heavy, spitting left.
The stand-ups have also
been getting a bit agro as of late. A number of boogers have had their
cars waxed up. One day we'll get our revenge...
A couple of shots from the new experiment vid.
This
is a warning to all residinets of Dunno's, wildman NorthLand bodyboaerder
Mark Hubbard has migrated with a number of followers to Dunedin to attend
University and to cuase hevak amonst the peaceful people of the area.
It is strongly recommended
that you lock up your daughters as soon as possible as he is expected to
arrive anytime soon.

Tour Rundown
There are 11 events on the
2001 Tour (6 North island, 5 South Island). There cannot be any additions
at any time during the year, although if an event cannot be run for some
reason it can be removed and another contest run in its place.
Rider's best 4 results go
to their final ranking.
The nationally recognized
divisions are Open Men, Cadets (Under 18) Grommets (Under16) and Drop knee
although other divisions may be run but will not receive national points.
(For any enquiries regarding this contact me)
The
highest placed New Zealand rider in the Open Mens division travelling to
Hawaii for the upcoming Winter Season will gain a placing in the main event
of the Pipe Contest. (There may also be a place in the Super Tour available)
Point's allocation is taken
from the 1998-99 GOB Rule book.
Contest Ranking is dependant
on its location, number of entrants and its prize money value. (eg The
Nationals with a 4A rating is about double that of a contest such as the
X Factor with a 2A rating.)
A sanctioning fee of $50
applies for every event. This money goes directly back into the growth
of Bodyboarding in New Zealand.
Regional
Clubs will be able to hold club contests. Points from these contests will
count towards competitors seeding's in BBSNZ rated contests.
New Zealand bodyboarder's
are now able to compete in the Australian national bodyboarding titles,
although this event is not rated on the BBSNZ national tour.
An email detailing the BBSNZ
official positions will be emailed out in a fortnight.
If you are interested in
helping out in any way please contact me within the next 10 days.
Any questions or queries
you may have don’t hesitate to contact me and I will help you as best I

I have stumbled across
yet another Nz bodyboard site while aimlessly wondering around the web,
the site is called Tube Net and has some good articles and info on New
Zealand as well as a flash layout. Check it out at...
Andrew
Lester of Australia has won the Mike Stewart International Pipeline Pro
presented by Gotcha.com and Paulo Barcellos of Brazil has captured the
Global Organization of Bodyboarders (GOB) world tour championship.
In the womens division,
Soraia Rocha captured the title ahead of two of her compatriot Brazilians
and one lone Aussie.
The round-robin format dropknee
contest saw California's Paul Roach come out on top |
New Zeland bodyboarders Andrew
Low, Cameron Hirst and John Diamond are over in Hawaii having a crack at
the Pipe Contest.
Cameron Hirst was seeded
into the main event as he was the highest placed Kiwi on the National tour
(apart from Dwayne Parata) while John Diamond and Andrew Low have to qualify
through the pre trials held at Turtle Bay.
The latest news is that
they have all been knocked out of the comp but I have no information as
to how far they got except John made it through the qualifying stages and
into the main event, well done.
John-Lee has a bit of a
note book on the trip go to
We will bring you more news
as it comes to hand.
One of Dunedin's top Boogers,
Dion Wells passed away after being struck by a car on New Years.
Dion was one incredible
surfer. He'd charge the biggest waves and had a love for heavy, spitting
waves. I remember seeing Dion getting the longest pit I've ever seen anyone
get in my life at Blackhead and would constantly bust Air reverses off
any oncoming section. His Dropkneeing ability was so good he could have
taken down anyone in NZ with his wicked gouges and snaps.
Aswell as being a sick booger
he was a top class fella who always had a good time in and out of the surf.
The line up down here will
seem a lot different without Wellsy ripping it up and the whole South Coast
crew will miss ya heaps. Keep ripping man.
The 2001 PULSATE BODYBOARDING
Championships began on Tuesday in good quality 4-6 foot surf at Mungahume,
south of Opunake.
Competition began strongly
with the men's U-18 which featured several juniors recently returned From
professional competition in Australia.
Sam Wells from Canterbury
was up against local Simon Sadsgrove for national honours. This was
followed by the U-14s, U-16s and Women's events.
As the surf deteriorated
later in the afternoon competition was halted and will recommence with
the semi-finals of the Men's Open and Drop Knee heats on Wednesday.
Signed,
Gordon Blyth, 8 January
2001
We don't have the full results
as of yet but we do have the names of some of the finalists.

This site does not as yet
have the shopping cart installed on it, but it will by next week, however

By Aaron Lock.
Just got some good news
from Tom Wilson.
It was unanimously voted
that New Zealand will be included in the 2001 Australian National Titles.
This is insane and it'll open up so many more opportunities for Bodyboarding
in NZ. Spread the word.

DUNNO'S
SURF REPORT FOR DECEMBER
|
By Hayden Parsons.
December in Dunno's was
plagued with smallish conditions for much of the month but when it did
fire, it fired.
Smaill's was sick at the
beginning of the month with bowly lefts and rights up to 3ft, a good alternative
to the overcrowded Blackhead. Speaking of Blackhead it was pretty consistent
with a few epic days, one night in particular was just sooo perfect.
The peninsula beaches have
been fun but the seals have been so agro the the surfs are often cut short
due their hostile nature. When the seals wernt around Aaron Buchan ripped
the hell out of the place.
The Northern beaches were
sick aswell during a good sized north swell which hit for week for so.
Almost everyone surfed Murderer's at 3-4ft for days straight and everyone
actually got sick of the 200+ metres of wall. Aiden Dickson, just back
from WA and surfing with Hardy and co was ripping on his backhand. Aiden
also reckons Aramoana Spit was pretty much epic one night with bugger all
people.
On the same swell Dunno's
Reef also broke nicely at 2-3ft, not epic but still good.

MIKE
STEWART PIPELINE PRO 2001
|
Pipe off again - January
14th, 2000
Contest is OFF for today.
Surf this morning is in the 2-4' Hawaiian range and declining quickly.
Monday is Martin Luther King's day and the permit does not allow for events
on holidays, so we will try again on Tuesday. There is an expected
swell coming in late Tuesday or Wednesday. Patience is a virtue!
Pipe off again - January
13th, 2000
Contest is OFF for today.
Surf is in the 12-15' Hawaiian range, but messy with a lot of backwash.
Will try again tomorrow.
Huge waves postpones Pipe
- January 12th, 2000 &nnbsp;
Twenty to thirty foot surf
has caused organizers of the Mike Stewart International Pipeline Pro to
postpone the contest. Current conditions are predicted for the next couple
of days so it remains to be seen when the contest will restart.
Ironically, yesterday three
foot surf prompted organiser Bob Thomas to postpone the contest due to
lack of size.
The competition will resume
with the beginning of round three of the Men¹s Open in which the top
sixteen ranked bodyboarders in the world will enter the competition.

SORIA
ROCHA TAKES WOMEN'S FINAL
|
January 10th, 2000
Soraia Rocha won the Women¹s
Division ahead of two of her compatriot Brazilians and one lone Aussie.
The day started with 32 of the world's top women taking on four to seven
feet Pipe. In the semis, Soraia Rocha came through with Daniella Freitas
and adopted Aussie Stephanie Petterson coming though with Neymara Carvalho.
The final saw Soraia Rocha pulling rollos and a nice clean ARS blasting
her way into first place. Stephanie Petterson used her experience to score
second place after getting a couple clean barrels. Daniella Freitas could
only finish third with crowd favourite Neymara fourth.
The specialty drop-knee
division followed the second women's semi-final. Four of the strongest
were Jimmy Hutaff, David Hubbard, Ben Holland, Jack Lindholm. The twelve
riders are competing in an expression session type format where no one
gets eliminated and will have a second chance to compete just before the
Open Men¹s finals.
A forecast decrease in the
swell mean it is likely that the contest will wait for the mammoth swell
predicted to arrive in three days time. Given that only one full day of
the comp remains and there is a full week of waiting period organisers
can afford to wait for the best surf.
MS Pipe Update - January
9th, 2000
A number of strong riders
were upset on this second day of competition. Kainoa McGee, a five-time
runner up here at Pipe started well in his heat but could continue his
form and exited the comp. Fellow Hawaiians, Spencer Skipper and Chad Militante
were also eliminated. Former World Champion Steve MacKenzie and last years
runner up Ruben "Babby" Quinones of Puerto Rico were both knocked out in
round two. Mike Stewart had a scare in his first heat but eventually made
it through, behind a charged up Joe Jordanoff. Stewart then dominated his
second heat of the day with a near perfect ride on an eight- foot monster
at Backdoor.
Hawaii¹s Jarret Lau
and Australian Sean Virtue have launched a strong claim for the highest
aerial maneuver performed in the contest for an award sponsored by Rock
Star Games. Jeff Hubbard and Chris Taloa confidently made it through the
day.
MS Pipe Update - January
9th, 2000
It's a go for the second
day of the Mike Stewart International Pipeline Pro.
Conditions are good, with
the surf about 3-6' Hawaiian-scale (head-high to
double-overhead).
Ronquilio nearly killed
by giant Pipe wave - January 8th, 2000
Lanson Ronquilio was in
the last heat of the first day of competition in the Mike Stewart Pipeline
Pro. As the heat was ending a massive cleanup set around about 12 foot
broke right on top of him and others. Lanson attempted to duck dive the
wave, and was slammed face-first into the reef knocking him unconscious.
Nathan "Nugget" Purcell was the first to see Lanson's board bobbing in
the aftermath, and yanked him up. With the assistance of pro surfer Strider
Wasilewski they dragged Lanson in and performed mouth to mouth to revive
him. Once on the beach, the lifeguards took over and managed to revive
Lanson. He suffered deep lacerations to his face and head and while his
condition isn't known he was coherent and able to move everything as they
put him in the helicopter to be airlifted.

Mike Stewart International
Pipeline Pro Day 1 - January 8th, 2000
The North Shore of Oahu
delivered clear skies, warm weather and excellent surf in the 6-8 feet
range to competitors and spectators for day one of competition at the Mike
Stewart International Pipeline Pro. Rounds one and two of Men¹s trials
and four heats of round three were completed today. The Australians performances
of note were delivered by Joe Jordanoff, Ryan Hardy and Sean Virtue who
scored the only perfect ten. Kainoa McGee and Chad Militante were the best
performed of the Hawaiians mixing both prone and drop-knee riding. So far,
the level of riding has been the high still with the top 32 seeded riders
are still to enter competition. Slight upsets saw the departure of Mitchell
Rawlins. At the end of the day, clean, consistent eight feet waves continued
to peel across the world class break. The swell forecast is for waves to
continue and conditions to stay clean.
MS Pipe Update - January
8th, 2000
The Mike Stewart International
Pipeline Pro is on for today (Monday, 1/8/01)! Surf is in the 3-6
ft Hawaiian range (head-high to double overhead), with clean conditions.
The event will be webcast on http://www.surfinglive.com/. |

them what I was made of and apparently that was the look that they were
after as the fact that I had a degree helped also".
When questioned on his reasons
for taking up this new prefssion Grim stated "I am using it as a stepping
stone to help me achieve my longterm lifes abtion of becoming a professional
model for the adult entertainment industry".
We will bring more news

DUNO"S
SURF REPORT FOR NOVEMBER
|
BY HAYDEN PARSONS
Man did the surf suck in Dunedin
in November! Although there was plenty of swell the banks at the beaches
were again non-existant and the winds bitterly cold and onshore with a
bit of snow down to sea level for good measure. Not even our beloved Blackhead
showed it peaky face.
I scored Sandfly Bay going
sick at 2ft with hell wedgeing peaks to bust off. Chris Schmeltz and I
scored The Cove in all it's glory along with about 20 other physco stand-ups.
Shit it was heavy and most were eventually chased out by a seal the size
of a bloody mini!!!
Rember that reef I that
I talked about last month that looked as though it had potential? Well
word got round (thanks Schmeltzy) and Mitchell Frew and Jeremy Gantley
scored it going off at 3ft and sucking below sea level.
A fun session was also had
at a certain beach on the peninsula with almost all of Dunno's top boogers
out there including myself, Casey Keen, Gareth Gorham, Brent Slocombe,
Cozza Hope, Dwayne Robinson, Chris Schmeltz and Mitchell Frew who did the
unthinkable and went for a naked surf in water temperatures barely reaching
10 degrees.
