The Megler repeater is located in the hills north of the town of Chinook WA. It covers the Long Beach Peninsula, Astoria and the lower Columbia area quite well.

The equipment comprises a GE MASTR-II continuous duty repeater with GE Phoenix-SX link radio for the network connection. This, with power supply, duplexer and support gear, occupies the lower half of an open rack. The upper half contains the GE MASTR-II UHF repeater dedicated to IRLP. This is not linked to the BeachNet system.

Megler site PL Tone is 82.5 Hz
The Megler repeater has a few areas in which its coverage suffers. This is primarily due to multipath, which causes the PL-tone on the user's signal to become distorted just enough that the repeater "chops", rendering the signal into the repeater unreadable, even though the signal received from the repeater may be relatively clear. To address these areas, remote receivers have been added to the network.

One remote receiver is located in Warrenton OR, with line-of-sight coverage to the area along the north bank of the Columbia River east of Chinook.

A second remote receiver is co-located with the Naselle UHF repeater. covering the Naselle area and north along Hwy 101.

A third remote receiver is located near Cape Disappointment State Park, giving you solid hand-held coverage in the Park as well as the cities of Ilwaco and Long Beach.

These remote receivers, and the main repeater receiver, all feed into a Voting Panel that continuously looks for the best signal, which is sent to the transmitter.

One little problem with the Megler site is the five television translators, each running a kilowatt or more, that share our tower. This broad RF smog raises the noise floor and limits the on-site receiver sensitivity somewhat.
