Austria

Welcome to Austria. Just across the border from Germany and overlooked by Obersalzburg lies Salzburg, former home of Mozart.

How ironic that this is the last page of my site alphabetically. Salzburg was also the last major city that we visited on our three week visit to Europe.

Salzburg

Here lies Salzburg, Austria. This peculiar city is surrounded by massive, steep hills of salt? I'm not so sure about that one. The main dome in the bottom-right corner of the picture is a fair-sized cathedral. It was very beautiful inside with many paintings on the walls of Biblical stories. This picture was taken on our walk up to the fortress that overlooks Salzburg. It was built long ago when Napoleon still was in power.

Here lies the Salzach River that passes right through Salzburg. This was taken while we walked through the town looking through different gift shops. At lunch, we had a great Hugarian food, but I don't remember what it was. It was really good. Many shops in town sold items to do with Mozart being that this was his birthplace. On the main shopping lane all the stores display signs about 15 feet off of the ground. These are made of metal bars and crafted into interesting designs to make the town feel old. Even McDonald's had one that looked hardly recognizeable except for the M.

Traditional band

We passed this interesting band on the streets near the courtyard of the cathedral in downtown. As you can see, this band has some instruments not often seen. The big triangular guitar appears to be a bass and there is the accordion that most should know of, and then there are a couple ukulele-like guitars to the left. They played relaxing music that drew a large crowd. I want to play that bass! No such luck. Oh well, I survived.
