Amsterdam, Holland

Holland

One thing comes to mind when Amsterdam is mentioned: bikes. Lots and lots of pedal-powered bikes! 3,000,000 to be somewhat exact.

An Amsterdam Canal

Amsterdam was an interesting place to visit. Canals ran everywhere almost like in Venice, Italy. We took a boat tour of the canals and took several pictures of them. One is shown here. As you can see, many boats line the edges including houseboats. It is said that the canals are 3 metres deep: 1 metre of dirt, 1 metre of stolen and crashed bikes, and one metre of water.

This picture shows the massive city square where the Dutch Parliament Buildings stand. As you can see, it is very old and deep within the old city. We didn't take much of a look at this building except through our cameras. Instead, we ate lunch at an Italian pizza place half of a block away.

city Streets

This is one of the many city streets that minimal cars drive down. Most people walk or ride bicycles to get around being that the city is so crowded. This street is home to several gift shops and a large canal. This area is near the place where we boarded the canal tour.
