A Day in the Life of
a Busy Mum!
By Jaydsie
2, 4, 6 am-Feed Baby...end up with him sleeping
in bed with me, wake up lying on soother #Ouch!!!#
6:30 am-DH crawls over me on his way to work
6:40 am-DH wakes me up looking for shoes/towel/underwear; tell him they
are right there where they usually are
7:15 am-Hear toddler rummaging around living room, put baby in bassinet,
Find 2 year old under my computer desk with a half eaten loaf of bread.
Change his diaper and bring him to bed with me, try to convince him it's
the middle of the night. Foiled when he insists that the 'Sunshine is
outside'
7:30 Try to sleep with toddler playing cars beside me on the pillow.
8 am-Baby starts crying, feed baby
8:30 am-Phone rings; we had all miraculously dozed off but now everyone
is up and about whether I like it or not. Make sure that the toddler
uses the potty.
9 am-Change baby, put baby in swing and try to get toddler to eat
something better than bread for his breakfast.
9:15-Try to check email and posts.
Good-Bud-that-I-haven't-talked-to-in-ages logs on...chat for 2 seconds
before baby interrupts with loud wails.
9:30-Baby sleeping; convince 2 year old that my shampoo will burn his
eyes out so that I can actually shower alone. Put toddler in tub as I
brush teeth, hair etc. Get toddler out of tub, dried off and on potty
again. Get both of us dressed.
10 am-Toddler hungry. Try to get him to eat a nutritious snack, he wants
pop and candy.
10:05 am-2 year old still crying about lousy snack his Mama wants him to
eat. When told that crying boys go to their rooms he cheers up 'I stop
crying now Mama!' Mama wishes she had known that 5 minutes ago.
10:15 am-Baby wakes up, feed baby, get
puked on. Put baby in the jolly jumper, change shirt.
10:30 am-Decide to do a couple of loads of laundry. Sort clothes and
throw 1st load into washing machine. Remember that there are clothes
from yesterday in the dryer still, get them out and bring them into
living room to fold them.
10:40 am-While folding laundry decide to call DH at work to see if he
has any idea of what he would like for dinner. He says that whatever I
decide is fine with him.
10:45 am-Search the net looking for dressing recipe to go with salad for
dinner. Print it out, turn around to see that 2 year has stopped playing
cars and is now kicking over piles of nicely folded laundry. Put
somewhat less nicely folded laundry into basket and administer Time Out
to 2 year old.
10:50 am-get spaghetti sauce out of freezer for dinner.
11:00 am-Baby decides that jumping is no longer fun, take him out and
spend some cuddle time with my boys.
11:15 am- Phone.
11:30 am-Take toddler to potty again. Enthuse about the benefits of
using the potty for pooping as well as pee. He seemed to really listen
this time!
12:00 pm-Lunch Time! Toddler asks for Eggs on Toast, I scramble eggs
and make toast and finally have my first meal of the day...it works out
good that it's breakfast food!
12:30 pm-Feed baby, change his diaper, put him down for a sleep, and put
laundry from washer into dryer, and toss the next load in.
12:35 pm-Take toddler to potty, Put Toy Story 2 on for toddler, and try
to get some cleaning done.
12:45- Phone.
1:00 pm-Baby wakes up CRANKY! Feed him rice cereal. Rock and try to
soothe the poor wee man.
1:15 pm- 2 year old messes the house up on me again.
2:00 pm- Put baby in swing, take toddler to potty, and try to get
breakfast and lunch dishes rinsed and put into dishwasher. Bring out
small TV from our room so the 2 year old can watch Treehouse while I
listen to Rosie as I tidy up.
2:20 pm: Baby fussing again. Wants to nurse
again. Spits up on me. Do a diaper change. Put baby under his baby gym
in the playpen.
2:30 pm: Notice odd odor as I go to my bedroom for a clean shirt.
Good News-my 2 year old did not poop in his pants for the first time
ever. The Bad News...he did not quite make it to the potty either. Clean
up 2 year old.
2:35 pm-Strip 2 year olds bed and clean up mess. Toss clothes in dryer
into basket, clothes in washer into dryer, and dirty (and I mean dirty)
bedding into washer.
2:45 pm-Start folding laundry, baby finds baby gym has lost all
fascination for him. Finish folding clothes with Baby on lap.
2:50 pm-Phone rings, it's my Mom. Finish folding laundry with baby on my
lap and phone tucked between my shoulder and my ear.
3:00 pm-Look around the house and decide to miss GH in favour of getting
outside for a bit.
3:30 pm-Get toddler a snack, rock baby to sleep and catch the end of
GH.
4:00 pm-Start cutting veggies for salad while I try to listen to Oprah
over the noise of toddler playing fireman.
4:30 pm-Finish making dinner and getting table set to eat.
5:15 pm- DH LATE!!! Serve toddler his meal and hold off on eating mine.
5:30 pm-DH rushes in, explains that he had been paged out to a call and
that he can't eat because he has to be to the Fire Hall for 6 pm. He
jumps into the shower, I grab my plate and start to eat.
5:35 pm-Baby wakes up, I finish my meal with baby in my lap.
6:05 pm- DH gone,, take toddler to potty and
then put TV on for him, and clean up supper dishes.
6:30 pm-Toys everywhere. Bundle baby into the stroller and take 2 year
old for walk...that way he can burn off some steam and my house gets
spared a bit.
7:00 pm-Come home...baby is sleeping. Get toddler washed, teeth brushed
and changed into his jammies. Then it's Story Time until it's time for
bed.
7:30 pm-Realize that toddler's bedding is still in washer. Get new
sheets and make up the bed. Tuck my big guy in.
7:35 pm- Finally get back to my puter. Wow people have been busy posting
today! Read posts, try to reply and Uh Oh! Baby is awake!
8:00 pm- Feed Baby. Ewwww! Dirty diaper! Get baby changed, bathed, and
into his sleeper.
8:30 pm- Put baby into jolly jumper. Try to catch up on posts, phone
rings. Well meaning relative wants to come visit tomorrow. Survey toy
strewn room but say "Sure thing! Sounds like fun!"
9:00 pm-Start tossing toys into basket. Baby starts fussing for a
cuddle.
9:30 pm-Put baby in swing and remember laundry is not yet done...toss
wet laundry into dryer and fold the pile of clean stuff.
10:00 pm- DH finally home. Get something for him to eat.
11:00 pm- DH heads for bed. Rock baby to sleep and put him in his
bassinet. Survey DH's dishes on table, socks on the floor and other
debris. Decide it can wait for morning and spend some glorious time on
the puter catching up with my Buds!
12:00 am-Baby wakes up. Feed him, and stare down at him realizing
that he is getting to be so big, in fact both my babies are growing up
fast. Dry my eyes and get him back to bed. Crawl in myself...tomorrow is
another day.
