Vampire Hunter D

    When a young woman is mysteriously attacked by "The Count", she seeks refuge by hiring a vampire hunter. His name…"D"; half human and half vampire, "D" has the strength and skill to deal with the toughest vampires. However, when "The Count" finds out that "D" is protecting his (The Count's) new bride, The Count sends his best warriors to kill "D".

     Normally, vampire animes are pretty good. Vampire Hunter D is the opposite of the norm. I'm sorry to say that this movie is horrible because I expected so much more out of it. At the beginning, I had a small hope (that the movie was decent) because the opening scene caught my interest. However, when "D" meets the woman he is supposed to protect, her opening lines were "I don't have much money, but you can sleep with me…" I decided this movie probably wasn't worth watching.

     The major component that was lacking in V.H.D was the animation. Face it, who wants to watch an anime with shabby animation. The art was very patriarchal and tedious, definitely not eye candy! Not only was the animation dull, the transitions were choppy; there were a lot of areas where the where the characters were drastically out of proportion. Over all, the animation was of poor quality.

     The music didn't fit the movie at all. The timing is probably what killed the music transitions. The movie would have been better if the producers started out with a professional score. I could have created better music with a wet balloon and a kazoo. Speaking of audio quality, the voice acting was a little off as well. The main character was probably the only professional actor in the whole movie. Everyone else's voice was appalling.

     Even if you like vampire movies, I would not recommend this anime. This movie is a waste of time (even for a classic). The DVD was released a few months ago, but I do not think there was much improvement. Final analysis: Don't rent or buy this movie, it is a COMPLETE waste of time!
