Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
The
year is after colony 195. After the final war between Earth
and the space colonies, peace has claimed both outer space and
Earth. However, shortly after this peaceful era, Trieze's offspring,
Mariemaia Khushrenada decides to carry out her father's plans
for total pacifism. The Gundams were sent on a one way flight
to the sun in order to stop a deadly massacre should they fall
into the wrong hands. With the help of Dekim (Trowa Barton's
father) Trieze's daughter takes over a nearby colony and announces
its independence and a declaration of war against the United
Earth's Sphere. The Gundams are once again needed in order to
maintain the peace they fought so hardly for.
"Endless
Waltz" surpasses the series in nearly every aspect. The producers
went all out for this movie and I loved it. Not only does it
faithfully tell the story of each character; it also brings
a final closing to the whole series. Everything about this movie
is dexterous in my eyes. Anyone who is a fan of mechs needs
to see "Endless Waltz". Before you do so, I would advise that
you watch the series first. Things might seem a little pointless
unless you do.
The
first thing I noticed in the opening scenes of E.W. was the
cell touch ups. The animation looked really neat, even if one
compares it to the original series. The enhancements on the
Gundams look excellent. The designs, new colors, and better
artillery make the new models look so much better than the originals.
I figure some people may disagree with me, but I like the feathers
on Wing Zero, and the twin machine guns on heavy arms! Not only
have the Gundams improved, the normal space Leo(s), mobile dolls,
the Taurus suits are pretty nice. During E.W. I also noticed
a few CGI scenes. The CGI scenes weren't anything major, but
you could tell the difference between cell animation and computer
animation. Truthfully, I don't think it really added anything
to the movie, I think the producers just wanted to use something
high tech, but I like it anyway (even if it isn't needed).
The
music in Endless Waltz is great! If you watched the series the
violinist that plays during the Gundam Wing series sounds really
cool with the background music. I liked the music so much I
kept on rewinding it just so I could here the opening few measures
of the violin solo. In most animes, the theme music is some
how enhanced in the movie, however, Endless Waltz has a new
score, but one could still tell it was the same artists. The
scene with the theme song "Last Impressions" is pretty cool.
It kind of reminded me of the ending of the series, which is
ironic. Gundam Wing the series practically ends the same way
Endless Waltz ends. I won't tell you exactly how (that would
defeat the purpose of watching the movie) but I just thought
it was interesting how they ended the movie.
"I've been lost ever
since the day I was born." ~Heero Yuy
Endless
Waltz explains almost all aspects of the Gundam Pilot's history.
So much is kept from the viewer during the series that is inclines
the viewer to accept nearly everything that is said during the
series. Endless Waltz definitely sheds some light on the true
feelings of the Gundam pilots, especially Heero Yuy and Trowa
Barton. The astonishing truth behind who Trowa Barton really
is and how he came about is quiet interesting. Heero Yuy also
explains his unique story of how he became the pure hearted
killer that everyone portrays him to be. Other than the informational
flashbacks, Endless Waltz is pretty straightforward.
For
anyone who is a mech fan or Gundam fan I strongly urge you to
watch this movie. Endless Waltz is worth the price and you won't
be disappointed. If you get the chance watch the whole series,
the plot is excellent, the characters are superb, and the art
is immaculate...
"History is much like
an Endless Waltz." ~Mariemaia Khushrenada
