Dragon Ball Z: History of Trunks
(The Trunk's Special)
(Dub/Sub)

The Trunk's special, in my opinion is one of the best DBZ movies published. The movie explains the origin of the purple-hair wonder boy known as Trunks. In his time, two sinister androids created by Dr. Gero have annihilated the "Z"warriors and slowly seek to destroy what is left of Earth. If you are familiar withthe DBZ series, Trunks is classified as a half Saiya-Jin. His mother Bulma, ishuman, and his father, Vegeta is a Saiya-Jin. After going through extensivetraining with Son Gohan, Trunks decides he must help Gohan rid the Earth fromthe terrible androids that plague it.

My feeling on this movie is that one should definitely see the sub versionover the dub. The sub version exceeds the dub in every aspect. WhenFunimation tried to touch up certain parts of the N.A. version they ended upbutchering the film. Granted, the changes were little, but I could still tell whereand what they changed. The dub wasn't bad; in fact I think they did a fairlygood job compared to the series they are currently running. The voices are alittle shaky, but it's something you should be able to get use to. If you get thesub version, I guarantee you will be pleased (providing you like Dragon Ball Z).

Besides the sub exceeding the dub in animation, voice acting, and overall quality, the dub cuts a major part of the film. I watched the UNCUT version of the Trunks' Special only to find that they didn't swear, and the blood and gore were dramatically cut down! I was shocked to find that they would cut something as simple as blood out of an UNCUT movie. Being thoroughly disappointed with the UNCUT version, I advise you not to waste your money buying a tape/dvd that says UNCUT, but truly isn't. Not only did they cut out language and gore, Funimation cut the most important scene in the dub.

(SPOILER)

When Trunks goes super Saiya-Jin, a few seconds are cut and the tape skips to the next scene! I won't explain the transformation (it's something you will have to see for yourself) but if you want to see a cool scene, please get the SUB.

I'm going to cut this review a little short only because it is DRAGON BALL Z, and either you are a devoted fan or you aren't. Chances are you will either love, or hate this movie depending on whether or not you watch the series at all. If you like watching DBZ, this (the sub format) is probably the best movie published in accordance with the series. If you can't get a hold of the sub, just by the regular dub version, the uncut isn't worth the extra money.
