Dragon Ball Z Movie 9: Revival of the Fusion
In the after world
Goku is presently participating in a world tournament. Things
are under way when an unintended disturbance stops the tournament.
An unknown being has emerged from the depths of hell to wreak
devastation across the land. When Vegeta makes his way to
the battle he finds Goku and his rival fighting a marshmallow
shaped spirit known as "Janenba" and an evil demon. After
Goku transforms into Super Saiya-Jin (third form) he realizes
that his power will not suffice the challenge before him.
Looking for help, King Ki recommends that Goku and Vegeta
merge into "Gogeta". With the combined power of Goku and the
Saiya-Jin Prince Vegeta, they must find a way to rid the underworld
of this powerful foe…
I watched the
sub version of this movie because I don't believe there is
a dub yet. I've got to say I think the translation was little
off because I don't think Goku would swear as much as the
fan sub translated. The movie was pretty cool. At a few points,
I wasn't exactly sure what was going on because the sub was
a little inaccurate, but the movie was exciting.
DBZ movies are
usually never long, and this movie is no exception. Though
it was short, the movie was to the point and captivating.
Like most DBZ movies, if you like the series, than you will
definitely like this movie. Out of the eight that came before
it (I think it's the ninth movie but I could be wrong!) "Janenba"
was probably the pleasant of the movies to watch. It had everything,
from Ki blasts to amazing power-ups. The transformations were
cool to watch the fight scenes were superb (as usual) and
over all I watched it about a dozen times.
The animation
wasn't the best. This is partly to blame because Dragon Ball
Z was created (and ended) nearly 7 years ago in Japan. Dragon
Ball Z shouldn't be compared to something like "Gundam Wing",
or "Akira". It has it's own style and with that style comes
it's own artistic design. If you watch "Revival of the
Fusion" I'm sure you will realize that the "Z" fighter
(DBZ characters) are stronger than most anime characters.
I like the idea of abnormal strength and super Ki blasts,
but no series does it better than Dragon Ball Z. That is why,
if you can get your hands on a copy of "Revival of the
Fusion" you should buy it.
The original music
from the series was used in the movie. However, I fear when
the U.S. dubs it officially, the original score will be trashed
for some techno, synthesized music. I dislike what they have
done to the American version right now, but I would rather
have the NA dub than no dub at all! Anyway, Janenba is still
far off in the series and the production of DBZ is steadily
increasing. A new score is added when Vegeta and Goku fuse.
I don't think it's anything to rave about, but when you see
the look on Gogeta's eyes, the music does add to the feeling
of the scene.
"Revival
of the Fushion" remains light on the story line. The
movie basically follows the normal pattern… Goku arrives:
Goku finds he isn't strong enough: Vegeta arrives: Vegeta
isn't strong enough: They sit and talk about this guy is way
too strong…and THEN, something different occurs. Instead of
the normal super power-ups or another SSJ stage, the merging
technique is used. I believe this is the first time in the
movie series that any of the Saiya-Jins merge. Earlier on
in the series, fans witnessed Piccolo and Nail (Nameks) merge,
which was cool. It automatically skips the agonizing episodes
of boring training. Over all I liked the new idea of merging.
The plot was short and simple, but most importantly…effective!
If you see this
movie anywhere, get this movie! Even if you don't like DBZ,
I would still advise you to give it a try.
