Dragon Ball Z movie 2: The Tree of Might

The Tree of Might When Goku's older brother Turlus decides to invade Earth, its up to the "Z" fighter to put a stop to the evil menace. Turlus plants a special tree on earth just before he initiates combat with the "Z" fighters. But this isn't just any tree; it's the "Tree of Might". This magnificent tree grows to be about ¼ the size of planet Earth, and it feeds on the life force that the Earth provides. After King Ki warns Goku of the tree's power, Goku and the Z fighters approach Turlus and his gang of elite warriors in an all out battle to save Earth once again.

Plot sound familiar? It should, its just another Dragon ball Z movie. I disliked this one the most out of the three that were originally dubbed in the U.S. It has cool fight scenes, but something was definitely lacking (don't ask me what!).

The animation was mediocre, I think a few other dbz movies were done better. One scene that kind of bothered me was when Turlus is holding Gohan towards the moon and his head is really out of proportion. I'm not talking about a minor glitch, it looks as if a little kid erased Gohan's face and replaced it with a choppy Charlie Brown head figure.

The length was fairly good. However, despite the fighting scenes, I still found this movie BORING. The replay value (the desire to watch the movie again) is pretty low. DBZ has a habit of running down a plot, but this movie over does it! In fact, it probably wouldn't have hurt if the producers had originally cut out a good 20-30 minutes.

One thing that has changed between the movies "Dead Zone" and "The Tree of Might" is the music. It would have been interesting to hear the original score to this movie. I believe Funimation replaced the original score for the series music. I don't particularly have a problem with the series music, but animes tend to go better with the original score.

Last but not least, the quality of the dub was good. Dragon Ball Z had pretty good voice actors up until the 3rd season (if you want to hear some bad VA's check out the beginning of the Freiza saga!). The really good part about the voice acting is probably the yelling and power up. The VA's that did the voices for the first and second season are exceptional. Over all the dub and script writing was pretty good. I'm cutting this review short because it is a DBZ MOVIE and the quality remains the same throughout the series and movies. If you want more information on dbz movies please click the reviews for "Dead Zone" "The World's Strongest" or "Janenba".
