Especially goakeeper Karin Mortensen and player Kristine Andersen have been outshining the others during this championship. It also has great significance that Lene Rantala has made a quick come-back, as her long experience can contribute both to the stability of the team and the performance of her fellow goalkeepers Mortensen and Nørgaard. Team list.

Controversial team list

When the team was announced for the European Championship not everyone were pleased.

For example Mette Melgaard and Rikke Poulsen Schmidt were not to be found on the list. Instead Lene Rantala made a surprising comeback, returning just for this one time as a goalie.

Slagelse was furious when their two players, usually on the national team, were not found good enough for the championship and blamed Pytlick in a press release..

A new goalkeeper is Louise Bager Nørgaard. Also Camilla Thomsen will be unfamiliar to most. She is from FCK and 28 years old. Camilla was taking part in a training tournament in Norway as replacement for Brødsgaard. She did it so well, that she was sure to stay on the national team and even push aside some more experienced players in the struggle for a place on the EC team. Actually, Camilla has never even been on the youth national team. Read the news section and team list.

Problems have occured because the green-yellow floor, which IHF has used in other countries, was not certified by the authorities in Denmark - the material is highly inflamable. The Danish authorites reluctantly accepted it only this Wednesday and as a compromise, a group of firemen are guarding the court.

Still it looks inappropriate in other ways as it gets slippery when the hall gets warm. The Scandinavian players have earlier complained to the IHF about the floor (used in the previous 6 EC) and many complain now. EHF now promises, this will be the last championship using this strange "lego" textured floor.

Originally the floor was introduced with the Easteuropean halls in mind, as they did not have courts marked up only for handball. But as all the three arenas in DK are built primarily for handball, the wooden floors are perfect and need no coating. But the EHF stubbornly still wants the coating kept for now.
