At the beginning of Sailor Moon S, there is a scene shown where there is a professor working on some type of experiment. This is an explosion, resulting in the death of his wife and his only daughter, Hotaru. Shortly after he meets a demon master who says he will revive Hotaru if he works for him, Professor Tomoe, devastated after the loss of his family, agrees and he is possessed by Germatioid. After that, he starts making the heart snatchers and Kaolinite begins to work for Professor Tomoe.
Hotaru is very isolated, due to the fact she has difficulty making friends and the students at her school say that her healing abilities are unnatural and gross. She becomes Mistress Nine after Kaolinite fed her Chibiusa's heart crystal. Later on in episode 119, "Second Chance", Super Sailor Moon gives Mistress Nine the Holy Grail in exchange for releasing Hotaru. She accepts and the grail helps Hotaru to regain her memory. Sailor Saturn is released and Mistress Nine died. Sailor Saturn fought Pharaoh 90 and Super Sailor Moon revived her as a baby. The reason the Outer Senshi never show up in Sailor Moon Super S is because the're too busy taking care of Hotaru.
In Sailor Stars, Sailor Saturn regains her memory as a Sailor Senshi and she returns to being thirteen once again. She uses her abilities to power up the other Outer Senshi and turns them into the Super Sailor Scouts.
