How she became Sailor Mars: Usagi first met Rei in the episode "An Uncharmed Life.", when she and Naru went to the local Shinto shrine to buy some good luck charms. They got off on the wrong foot when Rei sensed an evil presence nearby and mistakenly thinking it was Usagi, kicked her in the face using an Anti-evil scroll! The presence had actually belonged to Jedite, a new general of the Negaverse in disguise. Rei explained to Usagi how people were disappearing, along with the shrine's buses, and the blame had fallen on herself and the temple. As she and Usagi were leaving, Luna left Rei a "strange and beautiful" red stick, having felt a presence coming from Rei herself.
Later, after getting a reading from her sacred fire, Rei confronted "Jed" but she wasn't prepared when he opened up a black portal and she was sucked inside. Usagi had boarded one of the buses using a disguise pen and now both of them were stuck together. While Rei was being held by the youma that drove the bus, Usagi transformed and began fighting to set everyone free. Suddenly, the symbol of Mars appeared on Rei's forehead. Remembering the transformation wand Luna left for her earlier, she yanked it out of her robes ... and Sailor Mars was born. **
Family: Her mother died when she was young, and her father, a politician, is always traveling so he's never around. Rei was raised by her grandfather at the Hikawa Shrine, and is learning to be a Shinto priest. That's why you often see her wearing the traditional robe with the white top and red skirt.
Friends: Rei, like the other Inner Senshi, had always been alone for most of her life until Usagi came along. Since was she was a priestress-in-training at the Shrine, the other kids were scared of her, because of her mysterious aura.
Inner Senshi: She and Usagi argue about most everything, and Rei usually yells a lot at Usagi whenever she messes up, but it's not because she's mean and likes to make Usagi cry. She does it so that Usagi will learn from her mistakes, and ultimately make her become stronger. Underneath all their insults and taunts, they care for each other; they just don't like to show it in public. And as for the other Inner Senshi, Rei gets along with them pretty well; no problems there.
Outer Senshi: As for her relationship with the outer scouts, there's really none to speak of. The outer's go their way and the inners go another. Rei seems to get a feeling that Michiru and Haruka are somewhat snobby, because of their attitude towards the Inner Senshi. She gets along fine with Hotaru even though she always gets weird vibrations from her, and Pluto is rarely seem with them.**
Relationships: Rei and Yuuchiiro (Chad) make the perfect couple! Sure, she's always yelling at him and whacking him with her broom ^^' but she really does care for him. And you can tell just how much Rei means to Yuuchiiro. In episode 35, "Ski Bunny Blues," when Rei and Usagi are being chased by that youma, Yuuchiiro tried to help them, but got knocked out for his efforts *poor Yuuchiiro* And in the episode entitled, "Mixed Emotions", he jumped to the wrong conclusions when he saw Rei with Haruka, and thought she was in love with Haruka. Later, when he saw Haruka with Michiru, he started yelling at her for cheating on Rei, hehe *sweatdrops*
Past Life: In the Silver Millennium, Rei was the Princess of Mars. It seems like she was in love with Jadite, one of Endymion's generals. It's always been said that the Inner Senshi and Endymion's four generals (Kunzite, Jadite, Nephrite, and Zoicite) were romantically involved, and there are several manga pictures that were done by Naoko Takeuchi that show the couples together. Nothing official has ever been said however; but these pairings are very popular in the Sailor Moon fanfic community!
Future: Like the other Inner Senshi, Rei is still Sailor Mars in 30th century Crystal Tokyo, and is one of the royal family's protectors. Nothing else is really known about her during this time.
Overall: Rei may seem like an uncaring, hot-tempered girl, but underneath all of that, she's a loyal friend who will stick with the other Senshi no matter what. Her fiery and passionate personality are just part of who she is, and they are two of her best aspects ^^ Rei's probably the only senshi who has a power she can use even when she's not transformed. She's a psychic, and that ability has come in handy for the Senshi more than once.
