Mizuno Ami / Sailor Mercury

Japanese Name: Mizuno Ami
English Name: Amy Anderson
Birthday: September 10
Identity(ies): Princess of Mercury, Sailor Mercury, Super Sailor Mercury
First Episode: Episode #5, "Computer School Blues"
How she became Sailor Mercury: Ami was the first Sailor Senshi that Usagi and Luna found. In the episode "Computer School Blues," Usagi first saw Ami at school and overheard some students gossiping about Ami and her high IQ (300!). She approached Ami later that day, and they struck up a tentative chat. Luna was a bit suspicious of Ami because she could sense a mysterious energy from her, and later when Usagi found a disk that Ami had dropped that contained a brainwashing program, they decided to follow her. They went to Ami's cram school, and discovered a youma draining all the students' energy, including Ami! The Mercury symbol flashed on Ami's forehead while the youma was draining her energy, and Luna realized she was the second senshi. She quickly explained to Ami how she was a senshi and what she needed to do to transform into Sailor Mercury, and gave her the transformation pen. Ami transformed, and alongside Usagi, destroyed the youma and restored everything to normal at the cram school.
Family: Her parents are divorced and she lives with her mother. Her father is a traditional Japanese style artist and her mother is a doctor; Ami aspires to follow in her mother's footsteps. She is an only child.
Friends: Usagi was her first friend when she arrived at Juuban High School. Ami's always had very few friends; everyone avoided her and talked about her behind her back because of her high grades and intelligence. In the Sailor Moon R movie, the Promise of the Rose, she flashes back to a scene where there were some girls talking nastily about her. She's always been very shy, too, so that didn't help much. She has the Sailor Senshi now, though, and they all respect her for herself!
Inner Senshi: She usually hangs out with the Inner Senshi; they are her closest friends. She has a pretty well-established relationship with each senshi, and never has friendship trouble with any of them. Ami cherishes all her friendships, especially the one she has with Usagi, and she never hesitates to step in and help if one of the senshi is in trouble.
Outer Senshi: Ami doesn't really have any problems with the Outer Senshi, but she respects them all and they respect her in return. She and Michiru (Sailor Netpune) are actually alike in some ways. They are both extremely intelligent, and are quite talented in their own ways.
Relationships: Ami and Urawa Ryo (Greg) make a very cute couple ^^ Both are intelligent and shy. Ami first met Ryo in the episode titled, "Mercury's Mental Match." Ryo had scored higher than Ami on his first test, because he had looked ahead in the future for the answers using his ability to see into the future, and that caught Ami's attention. He had a big crush on her; he even clipped out a newspaper article about her. He was kidnapped later on by the Negaverse, but Usagi and Ami rescued him. He figured out her identity, but promised to keep it a secret. He reappears again in episode number 37.
Past Life: In her past life as the Princess of Mercury, Ami supposedly fell in love with Zoicite, one of Endymion's four generals. It's always been said that the Inner Senshi and Endymion's four generals (Kunzite, Jadite, Nephrite, and Zoicite) were romantically involved, and there are several manga pictures that were done by Naoko Takeuchi that show the couples together. Nothing official has ever been said however; but these pairings are very popular in the Sailor Moon fanfic community!
Future: Like the other Inner Senshi, Ami is still Sailor Mercury in 30th century Crystal Tokyo, and is one of the royal family's protectors. Nothing else is really known about her during this time.
Overall: Ami is an intelligent and shy girl, but that doesn't mean she doesn't know how to have fun! She's the brains of the Sailor Senshi, and though her attacks don't do much damage, they help in distracting the enemy. She's a good friend to everyone, and is generally easy going. Her dream is to become a doctor someday and follow in her mother's footsteps. This is one of the reasons why Ami works so hard in school and seems so obsessed with her grades; to get to medical school, you have to get very high grades and study hard.
