Like a palace, SM North Edsa stands at the very start of the MRT line. Across the street is a huge construction project, and along the road that leads to Philippine Science High School there is a shanty town. Isn't that ironic? The number one science high school in the country is surrounded by the classic symbol of industrialization's failure. I wonder what it must be like for the students: inspiration, or discouragement? It's a fitting prelude to what I saw for the rest of the trip: the amazing might of globalization to literally move mountains, and its apparent inability (or unwillingness?) to solve the everyday ordinary problems of Filipinos. That's why globalization impresses and angers me at the same time. HOW can we make it work for us?
