This not-so-smart swordsman just happens to be the best swordsman around. He has the brains of a
jellyfish but the strength of a soldier. Being that he never understands many of the simple
concepts of the slayers life, Lina always has to clue him in. Even then so, he still might not
get it. Gourry carries the mystical sword of light which is way more powerful than a regular sword.
In fact it's so powerful, it can destroy a mazoku (evil one) in one blow. It could never be
analyzed what type of energy comes from the sword of light, but we later find out that it's from
one of the highest dark lords, Dark Star. Gourry's love life is not very complicated and is actually quite simple. He is set on one thing throughout the entire Slayers series, to protect Lina. Every once-in-a-while we'll see him slightly hint his feelings for Lina through witty comments like for example: when Lina asks how long he's going to stay her guardian, he answers "maybe for the rest of my life." And not to mention when everything looked all grim at the end of Slayers Next when the Lord of Nightmares had taken over Lina's body, Gourry rescued her facing the Lord and making her change her mind to take Lina away forever. But because of Gourry's witty comments about Lina's bust size, he's always in line for a beating. Not much at all is known about Gourry's past. For one, we know he is the decendant of the great Roudy Gabriev who fought the mazoku Joyrock with Lina who was time traveled back to accompany him. We also know that he's the decendant of the mystical swordsman who defeated the demon beast Zanaffar in a single blow with the sword of light. Gourry has a different character than any of the characters in Slayers. For one, he never gets upset at random times for random acts of violence (ahem.... Lina...). Being that he's stupid, he always gets himself into trouble whithout knowing it. But his dumbness also helps him sometimes, because if he doesn't know what's going on he always tries to accomplish his goal and never let's anything else distract him. Like when he rescued Lina from the Lord of Nightmares or rescued Amelia and Zel from Halcyform. Gourry is one of the sweetest guys that you'll ever meet. Yes, he has some bad eating habits and he's a little dense, but with a little training Lina could probably mold him into a fine young man. |
