POPULATION SIZE AND GROWTH

Based on the data given by the National Statistics Office (NSO) Region III shows that the municipality of Magalang, Pampanga has a population of 52,410, wherein 38% of which accounts from the urban population, Barangay San Ildefonso has the biggest figure which is 5,082, followed by barangay Sta. Cruz which has 4,790, followed by Barangay San Pedro II which has 3,262, fourth is Barangay San Nicolas I, Fifth is Barangay San Nicolas II, with 3,032, and 2,961 respectively. On the other hand Barangay Sta. Lucia has the least population which has only 420 inhabitants.The concentration of the town's population is observed in the rural areas which accounts for 61.82% of the total population of the municipality.Compared with the municipalities population in the year1990 which is 43,783, figure indicates an increase in of 8,824 to hit 1995 population which is 52, 607 at an annual growth rate of 1.036% between 1990 and 1995. the highest percentage change is exhibited by Barangay San Pablo with 54.18% followed by Barangay San Agustin which is 40.68% and Barangay San Pedro I which is 28.26%. While Barangay San Pedro II showed a negative percentage change of -5.05% while Barangay San Roque had the same number of population in the year 1990 and 1995

URBAN-RURAL DISTRIBUTION

The National Statistics Office (NSO) preliminary report in 1990 shows that the municipaliy of Magalang, Pampanga is predominntly a rural area. The urban Area is composed of the 7 Barangays namely: San Francisco, San Miguel, San Nicolas I and II, San Pedro I and II. and Sta. Cruz which accounts for the municipalities uban population of 20,009 or 38.18% of the total population of the municipality as against its rural population of 32,401 or 6182% in the year1995. This represents an increase of 16.46 in the 1990 popultion in rural distribution.

DIALECT/LANGUAGE SPOKEN

Based on the 1995 census, Magalang, Pampanga is predominantly a kapampangan speaking town. About 93.56 speaks Kapampangan, while Tagalog is spoken about 2.51% of the populattion followed by Ilikano with 1.28%.The ethnic origin of the people is purely Filipino with soe bloods of Chinese, Spanish and American Mestizos.

LITERACY

In 1995 report of the NSO shows that the literacy rate in the Municipality of Magalang, Pampanga is 93% which means that out of 45,705 10 year olds and over, 42,623 are literate, while 5.89% or 2,690 have no grade completed.
