SAN FRANCISCO

Barangay San Francisco was commonly called "Batiawan" because it was the only barrio of this town which has a watch tower during the Spanish regime. It is one of the largest barrios in the town of Magalang.

The barrio's name was derived from its Patron Saint Francis of Assissi. there are four sitios included within its teritorial jurisdiction;namely; Tambakan; Mapaku; Mabatu-bato, and Kamachiles. Tambakan meant the filling of low muddy places with sand and stones. this sitio must have been a very low and muddy place with the people elevated to avoid floods specially during rainy days. Mapaku meant plenty of ferns, while Mabatu meant many stones. Sitio Kamachiles got its name from the Kamachile trees that grew in great number at the place
