Britney Spears: VMA 2001

Another ambitious Halloween-costume-that-never-was. I love the Indian/sari feel of this costume and the colors are awesome. This costume was spurred on when I found the perfect sheer green/blue fabric to cover the bra with and use for the scarves.

Bra Top
I found a lime green bra at Walmart for $5 and covered it with a sheer green/blue fabric, hand gathered and hand stitched down. Took me quite a while to do it too but it's finally all together. The straps were wrapped with a sheer watercolor-ish green ribbon and then hand stitched down. The rhinestone accents were glued on. Where the top extends from the cleavage and then wraps around to the back, I'll cut a rectangle and finish the edges. This will then just be tied into place. I already have a jeweled pin to put in the middle to finish it off.

Hot Pants
Using a Burda pattern, I'll make the hot pants out of blue stretch fabric (a deviation from the jean fabric of the original). I'll alter the pattern so there's no waistband, pockets, or zipper. The stretch fabric allows for no closure - a plus. :)

Accessories
I still have to make the scarves but I've found some embellishments for the costume - a few dragonfly patches, beaded trim, and rhinestones. These will be added here or there once I get it all together. For something fun, I found a snake stuffed animal at the Rainforest Cafe for $10 and thought he was just too cute to pass up.
