Halloween 2005

Ah, the Costumer's Holiday. ;) I actually had a party to go to this year (2005). I made my former roommate a 'gothic princess' costume, which turned out awesome if I do say so myself. I didn't feel like sewing for myself, so I just threw some pieces together and went to the party as a Black Fairy. The wings were tres cool. :) Halfway through the party, I ended up in the hostess' kick-ass leather corset so I was a Dominatrix Fairy for the rest of the night. Fun!

Beth's Gothic Princess Dress & Cape

The Dress
Pattern: McCalls 4151, View B with modifications; black panne velvet, red/black taffeta (remnant), maroon and gold trim, gold cording for front lacing, black cording for back lacing; we put side slits in the dress to make it a little more racey ;) the last two pictures were taken after the party

The Sleeves
I modified the sleeves so they hit at the elbow, then added a half-circle lower sleeve out of this awesome stretch knit we found on clearance; based on my Blood-Red Dress sleeves, but since it's a knit the sleeves stretch and ended up *much* bigger than intended; I trimmed the elbow seam and added a gold button that I'd antiqued, there's a black ribbon loop underneath the knit sleeve so that the sleeve can be worn drawn up if needed

The Cape
Pattern: Simplicity 9887, modified the hood to be bigger; black crinkle fabric from Joanns and a gold clasp that I antiqued; unlined, sewn together with french seams, edges finished with a rolled hem; neckline seam finished with black bias tape

The Hair
I pulled Beth's long hair into a high ponytail and wrapped the band with hair just in case it was seen through the curls. Then, I curled the ponytail with a curling iron and *lots* of hairspray, pining each curl up as I went and fluffing artistically so that all of the gaps between the curls were filled in.

Black Fairy

The Costume
No pattern, I simply used pieces I already had to make this outfit; I pinned up a long black dress I had to make it a little more slutty and added dark jewelry; the wings were the only purchased item, Walmart $7; halfway through the night, I ended up in the hostess' black leather corset; I love the last picture, very artsy ;)
