Red Top Matches With rocking influences coming from the
likes of Guns n Roses, ACDC and 3 Colours Red, RTM really have to be seen to be
defined. Gigging reguarly since 2002, including gigs at Moles, The Fleece and
Firkin and the Cardiff Barfly, the Bristol Rockers are already gaining industry
interest from the likes of Polydor. A much anticipated new demo is shortly to
be released. Website : www.redtopmatches.com
Reviews: 'From
The Bristol Noticeboard' magazine "Headlining the Fleece &
Firkin on a windy Tuesday night can be an unforgiving assignment for even the
most stalwort musicians. It was down to the relatively new 5 piece set up of
Red Top Matches to lift the spirits of the discerning (and rapidly thinning)
Fleece crowd on a rather uninspiring night. When the support bands are flatter
than the floor, it makes life much harder for new bands to showcase material,
Red Top Matches proved they wee more than up to the challenge.
RTM,
up and coming newcomers to the circuit came out blazing with a tight blend of
biting, upbeat guitar driven rock, their sound is evidently inspired by many
but thankfully is a sound they have made their own. As they belted out their
first tune, the crowd breathed a sigh of relief and decided to stay after all.
The
well rehearsed set was confidently churned out, interlaced with Slash inspired
lead guitar and a liberal dose of crunching rock breaks. Hughes on vocals added
a confident edge and looked every bit the r'n'r bachelor he professes to be in
his lyrics. Unsung hero of the night could be Dan Fortune - a fine skin
meister, keeping it tighter than the proverbial religious lady.
With
a highly polished website launching soon - www.redtopmatches.com and plans to
record another E.P, Red Top Matches are making an effort to be noticed. The
upbeat vocals, clean t-shirts and well groomed barnets do wonders for the image
and who knows, Pocock might just bring rivetted belts back into fashion. A
compatible bunch of fellas who still seem amused and just a little surprised by
the whole rock n roll thing. Well worth a listen - 4/5"
