Kaw (marsh), Camp Patawa, Conacou
Loisirs, Kaw Mountain & Gabrielle Creek have lots to see, but it's not
as easy to get to as the other places I've been (I did not get a chance to
go).
It's about 65km southeast
of Cayenne. You can get to it via a dirt road and across the Kaw
River, or by catching a ferry from Régina (which we visited in March 2002,
picture of some people crossing below).
The abundant marshes in the
area are home to a variety of bird life as well as plenty of caimans (a
smaller relative of the American alligator.) Basic lodging is available.
Also note that the caimans found in the Zoo near Montsinnery come from
Kaw.
