Final round of the King Challenge teed off in the early hours with the dew still on the ground and the beers still having an impact on the field. Mike held a 7 shot lead going into day 4, a strong lead but would the ghosts of 'Royal Monday' return to haunt him, Steve knew he needed a good start to put early pressure on Mike. AB was happy to be out of contention for the spoon as was Paul. Simon, Rohan and Kel teed off in the first grouping, Only 3 shots seperated the 3 players so the spoon was anyones! Starting from the temporary clubhouse on 13, Rohan started well with 3 pars and a birdie on the opening 9. Simon didnt enjoy the 14th and 2nd holes but played consistently and also putted well to stay up front for the putting trophy.
Steve didnt get off to the dream start with a 4 putt on the first green and water trouble on the 18th hole meant he needed to get the King cooking down the home stretch, Mikes game was returning to its inconsistent self but he managed to keep the game under control with some good putting. AB had a couple of nasty 7s early then got the game together, while Paul was matching shot for shot before sand trouble on the short par 3 5th.

Rohan picked up another birdie on the way home but it was too late, the fat lady had taken the jacket and sung a melody of dance hall favourites already. The Tudor-Slam was not to be. Simon nevenr got the game going on the back nine but did pick up a couple of consolation pars, no Pammy no Jacket! More importantly he went around in 31 putts to set the clubhouse lead for the putting trophy! The Jones Boys final hole summed up his Challenge with an unhappy 9 to take the King Spoon.

Paul parred the 10th hole before making a miraculous recovery from against a tree on the last (see below) to finish the Challenge in fourth place. AB played the last few holes well finishing strongly. His 'cut eight iron' into the last hole brought the gallery to their feet. Noted golf Journo Tom Ramsay was there to witness the shot and bet AB $10 that he couldnt get down in 2 for a par! AB promptly 2 putted, Tom still owes AB the tenner!!!!! Steves hopes of a Mike collapse were to no avail as Mike managed some good up and downs including a great 'double bogey' save on the 17th. As the gallery converged on the green Mike tapped in to take the 2001 King Challenge Gold Coast by 9 shots from Steve. The two King Challenge veterans finishing 1-2 ahead of the younger more inexperienced players on the tour..
