Round 2 of the Challenge returned to the entertaining Lakelands layout, previously played as Round 3 of the 1998 Gold Coast Challenge. Conditions again were sensational as Mike, Kel and Steve headed off in the first group. Mike played inspired golf over the first 8 holes, fired up by Hawthorns big win over Port Power the previous night!. He was 2 over after 8 holes hitting 6 greens in regulation. The ninth brought some reality back to the score with a triple bogey! Steve was also playing quality golf and was determined to keep the leader in sight as was rookie Jones Boy! The par 3 6th was an impressive display of golf from the trio, all hitting to makeable birdie distance, Steve and Rohan rolled in their respective birdie putts, Mikes edged the cup and stayed out!! In the final group Rohan went out hot, including a 5 hole par train on 3,4,5,6,7. Paul and AB were playing consistent golf but Simons game was suffering, mainly due to a 7 on the Par 3 6th.

A double bogey on the 10th for Mike showed signs of a potential crash but he kept the form under control hitting the Par 5 16th in two to make a two putt birdie (Still no King Eagle recorded!). He finished with a nett 64 to maintain the lead on top of the leaderboard. Steve played the back nine consistently but had problems on the tough par 3 17th hole. He finished second on the leaderboard. Kel just couldnt get his game on fire, the pressure of King Challenge golf starting to show on the rookie from Canberra. The back nine at Lakelands was not a happy place for the second group, especially Rohan (see picture below!) With the famous 3 wood not firing, Rohan did not enjoy what jack had on offer. His trip to the muddy edges of the lake on 18 summed things up. With Jean Van der Velde intentions he played the muddy lie hitting it too well overshooting the green. The media was promptly dismissed from the area, with Rohan then firing his pitch to within inches of the hole. AB finished well and was left pondering what may have been after problems on 15th and 18th but also pars on 14 and 16 to stay in the top 3 on the leaderboard, Paul let his good form slide with an unhappy 13th, while Simon dropped a few to the field on 16 and 17.
