The third King Challenge hosted on the Gold Coast kicked off on the East Course at Royal Pines. Brilliant conditions greeted the field and reigning Purple Jacket holder Rohan Tudor led the field away on the first paired with Simon and Steve. Mike, Paul, AB and rookie Kel followed in the second group. All started off reasonably with no-one showing any great form on the opening nine,. Rohan struggled on the par 5 6th hole, while Steve carded the first birdie of the event on the par 3 7th. Paul set the early pace before dropping shots midway through the round. !

The back nine didnt bring much joy to the field, especially the LONG par 5 12th which plays 543 metres from the white tees. Scores from the field for the 12th were 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9!!! With no one blitzing the course, the top 5 were closely grouped after the first round with Mike narrowly in front of Steve, Paul, AB and Kel. Rohan and Simon had less than memorable rounds to trail the field into round 2.
