The last place I have been to in the carribean islands was VARADERO, CUBA. There are so many things to tell about my experience here but at the moment, I don't have the time to update this webpage. Here are some of the pictures! :()

I have an interesting story to say about this trip. First of all, it was one of those all inclusive "surprise" package where you don't know where you'll end up going. SUPERCLUB all inclusive packages... there were three of them and each of those places looked good. Chris being my nickname, of course, it goes without saying that i ended up in the least attractive resort amongst the three... Puntarena, Varadero. Our first day includes being placed in a room facing the channel with the broooming and grrrrrrrrrrrrrr sounds of the machines from the renovation being done just below us. I started thinking of the fact that there were only three people who got off the bus full of tourists going to their surprise resorts and seeing the place, I didn't want to leave the bus at all.. I had a premonition. We had to pay extra cash to change rooms that same day, and the nightmare started. Dinner was edible (thank goodness!) except the food was not as good as I thought it would be..compare to the other resorts that we've been to. Never mind comparing it to the resort food but to my cooking!, and I can do way better!. I guess comparing it to ECT treatment to your palate would be a better description, and if you don't know what ECT means, e-mail me :). Anyway, we had to endure a week of that, a bar tender who uses their local rum for every cocktail you order, not to mention some of the attitude that goes with it. Again, nevermind the taste (the most awful experience on my taste buds!) ...i just tried to endure a week of my unfortunate vacation (in which i was supposed to de stress myself) prior to my exams in Toronto!!!!!!!.

The picture on top may look good, but it's actually an old building that needed a lot of renovation. Most of their facilities are closed *not that It suprised me* the only thing that we did really enjoy was the peace and quiet of the area. I mean perhaps when I'm 60 I would come back here, but at that moment all I wanted was to have some fun. I have so many complaints already, from drinks, to food, to rooms, to facilities, to attitudes.......what else did I miss? So by the third day, I got really sick. I had a fever, fatigue, malaise, headache, difficulty swallowing.....tonsillitis!. To speed up the healing process, I had to take 2 IM shots (21 guage!) to each of my derriere with an old fashioned needle going to god knows which site!. My former nursing instructor would roll in her grave if she sees me do that! At least though, the physician was very good. She took the time to chat with me about her interests re: going out of the country (but Cubans are not allowed) and other frustrations in life. That was my first learning experience about their culture. Because of the staff members being so underpaid, it affects their job performace at times. I mean, it's not their fault that they couldn't go to Paris to take cooking lessons, nor that the spices were not so accessible to them. Even their ketchup and mustard were made in Spain! I can understand now why even the staff members in the resort sells CUBAN CIGARS *black market* to their own patrons. So in the end, I take back all my complaints, and just be glad that I was able to go and visit this country. On a positive note, Varadero is such a beautiful city. It's very clean, the people are nice, it's so safe to walk the streets, and their people are very good looking.
